I'm experiencing a strange issue with my SF8008. The power LED on the front of the receiver turns to red from blue once I move satellites using USALS. The dish moves to the satellites fine and I've checked the LED on the motor and its solid green but yet the box LED turns to red. It goes back to blue if I restart the box but will occur again once I move satellite. The error log is empty.

Edit: Going back to the default skin looks like it resolves it. Very strange!
What image ?

You should really upgrade to something a bit more recent (7.2)

Hello everybody,

Since I am planning to buy the SF8008 Combo there are some questions left:

Here was announced that the receiver is available with an 1TB or 2TB HDD. I wonder how a 2.5" Barracuda, which can be seen on the product picture, can be attached internally.

Could an SSD also be connected the same way ?

What read/write speeds can be reached ?

Would you prefer an internal SSD or a microSD if speed is the main issue ?

I don't recall the 8008 having an internal SATA socket though I could be mistaken. The SF4008 has one btw.

Additionally there is very little space inside the later machine and the 12V external power supply that comes with the receiver may not be sufficient to power everything reliably.

I am using the SF4008 for many years now and have a 2TB 2,5" Firecuda HDD but the SF8008 is completely different according to several photos posted here and there so how did Octagon managed this ? USB to SATA 2 ?

Anyhow they did this you would't recommend this, right ?
So the only solution to record programming is by USB or microSD.
Which one gives higher speeds for read and write ?

Yes, the 4008 is an 'old school' design, everything modular. Its replacement, whilst very capable is SOC/tuners on one board, even the power supply is external.

I find recording through a USB port more reliable than using an SD card (of any type) , use the USB3 on the side with an external 2.5" drive and appropriate cable.

I will test this all myself of course
1. USB 3.0 stick
2. 2,5" external USB HDD
3. microSD
although all 3 are not the quickest devices.

That's why I am asking about the read and write speeds if it makes sense to buy something new. I think this should be measured systematically first connected on a PC and then see how they perform on the SF8008 and finally what speeds are possible when copying over the LAN interface.
Maybe somebody here has done this before.

I've not had issues with UHD on an external drive on the 8008.

There are not many boxes left that take an internal 2.5" disc. Probably the cheapest is the Zgemma H7S (with 2x DVBS2 tuners and 1x DVB-T2) at 130 GBP. HDD just slides in the back; you don't even need to dismantle it.

I decided to buy the SF8008 despite the fact that it does not support internal hdd connection, just trying to find out how to transfer the recordings to a PC as quickly as possible. From my SF4008 I copy per ftp with speeds up to 90MB/s.
Can I expect similar values ?

It might be a glich here, but the latest daily update has locked up my receiver.

I am unsing Openeight 6.8 so it's probably time to upgrade anyway.

You seem to have a lot of receivers failing prematurely...

Receiver is fine, it's the OTA update. This Octagon was the combo from TJ so it is second hand and some 4 years old.

Powering down (after leaving for 30m to ensure it wasn't still writing to memory) has fixed it.

Octagon released a "new" model of the SF8008 4K, the SF8008 HDD version, with 2 sat tuner or combo (SAT + DTT) with an increase of €75 for being able to put the 2.5" hard drive inside, they do not indicate transfer speeds.
The measurements of the "bug" are the same [Dimensions (LxDxH) 220mm x 125mm x 40mm] they do not change with the normal model, there is room to put.
The difference with the normal model is marked, I can't find any more photos online.

Marcada la diferencia con el modelo normal, no encuentro mas fotos por la red.

OctagonSF8008-4K-HDD-Version.png

Some colleagues on other models with a physical hard drive changed it for an SSD without problems.
On the Octagon SF8008 Twin (normal), I have a class10 microSD (minimum 10MB/s), peak 27MB/s, downloads using FhashFXP5 is almost 27MB/s.
In other receivers with a physical hard drive, the download speed is 88MB/s peak and depending on the receiver/movie the average is 24Mb/s and 50Mb/s.
As a reference to this PC, all to a 1GB 24RJ45 hub with 1Gb network cards, other times I saw more than 90Mb/s, but not tonight.
---------
