The normal version has Silabs, it can lock down to 185 SR with no issues.

Availink has its advantages and disadvantages, it can detect some "weird" DVB combinations, it supports short and long frame, but the low SR is a struggle. I'm not even sure if the new tuner/demodulator combination will make things better or worse.
Could you give some examples (sat position and frequency) of "weird" DVB combinations ?

The SF8008 Supreme is not the exact same as the Edision MIO 4K receivers when it comes to satellite signal reception. Similar, maybe, but I think you will find a different tuner/demod combination.

The SF8008 was a pretty buggy item back when it was first released. Work was done to improve the SF8008, and even today it is at least a decent if not exceptional FTA DX type receiver.

The SF8008 Supreme has provisions for internal hard drive which will be a big plus or upgrade for some users. The wifi/Internet connection is different than the SF8008. And of course the way the SF8008 receives satellite signals is a bit different from the original SF8008.

Even though the SF8008 and SF8008 Supreme use the same enigma2 image, there are differences and there are things that probably need to be worked on in the SF8008 Supreme. Only time will tell if the SF8008 Supreme is as good as, worse, or better at satellite reception than the SF8008.

Octagon has shown a desire to be good at DX type satellite signals. FTA Satellite users that use low symbol rate channels or services, blindscan, and search for things will need to purchase the SF8008 Supreme, then tell Octagon how or what to fix. This will take some time. The SF8008 Supreme has been on the market for maybe 3 weeks??? We will see....

Yes, different tuner/demod combo, but will this improve or hinder Availink's tuning capabilities? For starters, we see the latter. Let's hope they work on that part.
Did anyone try blindscan btw?

A comment about blindscan was made in post# 379 of this thread.

It will take another week or two before it becomes clear what works better or worse in the SF8008 Supreme and what will need to be done to fix it.

Hi blindscan is fine, for example 53E with transponders T2Mi
I compare model 8008 with new 8008 Supreme and here blindscan function is the same level.
Ofcourse old model 8008 not found transponders T2MI.

Almost a 4008 Mk2 then.

No one has yet tested tuner sensitivity? I think this is important.

But there might be some good news about "unlocked signal SNR". Hope I'm right, "read_snr" function in hi-dvb.ko does NOT check lock status.

Of course Enigma2 changes are still needed to display SNR in signal finder when not locked, but this is easy to fix

I'm surprised that neither OpenPLI nor OpenATV picked up the Enigma2 changes. If anything, if the tuner drivers allow it, it will work, if not there's nothing to lose.
Maybe I could reach the developers as well...

@ ocean04,
I think "read_snr" function in hi-dvb.ko DOES check lock status because my SF8008 will not display signal below lock. even with the proper modifications in enigma2. Maybe Octagon will add this? They seem to like a DX type receiver.

@ MCelliotG,
It is can be hard, sometimes even impossible to get OpenPLI or OE Alliance (OpenATV, VIX...etc) to make enigma2 changes. These groups build images for many receivers, and a change that works well on some receivers may cause problems with other receivers. Some things are just outright rejected. For example, drivers are available that would improve the Ustym 4K S2 OTT X. OpenPLi rejects these drivers because they are not in the BSP for Ustym.

I am supposed to have a SF8008 Supreme that is currently on an air plane, somewhere over the Atlantic ocean. I am building an enigma2 image especially for it. Hopefully the Supreme can be made into a good DX type fta receiver. We will see...

It doesn't work in SF8008 Silabs, but SF8008 Subreme has AVL62x1. Did you look assembler code I attached? There are no checks, it calls directly AVL62X1_GetSNR. I'm pretty sure that code returns SNR value always. But like I said enigma2 doesn't show it, if not locked.

My apologies. I thought you meant the SF8008.
I will check it and see what it does in the Supreme SF8008, and also see if changes can be made to the SF8008 to show signal below lock. I cannot do anything else except build an image until probably Wednesday. My idea is to get Octagon to ask for the proper enigma2 changes. This way a special build for enigma2 by us will not be needed.

In 2019, the first modifications for SF8008 of the entry parts were published (from DX-TV and OpenATV forums).

if changes can be made to the SF8008 to show signal below lock.
For sf8008 silabs not sure if it's possible at all. I have already spent "few hours" studying hi-dvb.ko.

There is one obvious check in si2166_read_snr, which is easy to bypass, but it doesn't help.

Silabs doesn't have "get snr" function like AVL. Instead it reads many tuner parameters at the same time. It also uses 2 different functions for DVB-S and DVB-S2, namely Si2183_L1_DVBS_STATUS and Si2183_L1_DVBS2_STATUS

There are few Silabs api repos in github. For example these functions you find:

It is possible to modify hi-dvb.ko file, but without Octagon C-sources that must be done using arm assembly language.

And of course all this applies for other models too. Seems all new Hisilicon models use AVL62x1, for example USTYM 4K PRO, GBTRIO 4K PRO, ...

Do not take these results too seriously because no attempts that I know of have been made to improve the SF8008 Supreme. Blindscan tests in the attached file will show the SF8008 Supreme finding 55 transponders compared to the SF8008 finding 68 transponders. C band test, 117w.

Hi. I'm able to test some improved images. I have SF8008 (single), Osmini4k, h9sSE and much more...

Please post here some own developed images. I'm not a developer... just curious.

Example: my friend told me about only OpenSPA fix the ISDB-T mygica S270 tuner (I did tests and work fine).. all other images appear S2X instead DVB-T.

Thx.

Frank

I am not talking about a driver change, but an Enigma2 code change in their .bb that will allow any tuner that supports SNR below lock can benefit from. Other drivers/tuners that do not support it will simply not show it. I find it high unlikely that such a change can break any receiver, since it doesn't affect the drivers at all.
Anyway we have nothing to lose proposing a change.

Like I said earlier, Sometimes it is hard to get changes made to enigma2. You have to make a case for it. I have yet to find a factory enigma2 tuner that supports signal below lock, including the SF8008 Supreme. Ask and see how far you get. The worst they can say is no. Your efforts in getting this changed are appreciated!

I sent the diff from ozean04 to Captain about installing it, he is DEV from OpenATV. I tested on SF8008 and Mio4k.
Code:
The e2_changes_20231223.diff only seems to have an effect on the SF8008, the Mio4k is probably too slow.
The SF8008 now shows me a signal starting near zero, but unfortunately I didn't get around to testing it sooner.

Screenshot from SF8008 (not Supreme)
screenshot_20231230121358_720.jpg

I have to ask Captain again if the diff has been copied into Git.
