Do keep us posted - my first gen Humax HDR must be nearing end of life and I have no wish to replace it with the current Arris PVR.

At 130 sovs for the SF8008, pre-set up, plus 16 sovs for a 128GB USB 3 stick, this could be the solution

Sorry, a little late in this thread. You will not be dissappointed with the SF8008, only my thoughts but a good read of the different threads where both of the SF8008's are involved ie: low SR/SNR capabilities + sensitivity of tuners etc etc..........as the earlier SF8008 4k Twin has different tuners to those installed in the later 'SUPREME'. I have both and prefer the earlier for low SR locks. Both models are superb receivers and both come with the usual Enigma 2 at times frustrating quirks!! :-ohmy Go for it and enjoy your choice. :Y

Have you used an E2 receiver before?
No, bought same receiver in 2020 from amazon but it was freezing a lot so I returned it.
I hope it’s better now so I can learn and use it

Received receiver in first 20 minutes it’s crashed 3 times
Using open ATV
Must admit tuner is very sensitive
Start receiving 12130@ badr 4 62%

Three crashes in 20 minutes does't sound good.

No, sorry to hear of 'gladstones' events...........part of the Enigma 2 enjoyments. :(

On receiver...... 'Menu/Information' will confirm image being used, etc, etc.

To find/read the reason of crash you could try the 'logs' files auto created using say Filezilla or your preferred and with path;.

'home/root/logs'.................as attached.

Good luck, persevere, worth it. :Y

From the real findings of the TNAP image developer on legitfta.com.
The advertised capabilities of the 8008 supreme fall short of real world performance.
SR claims of the 8008 are exaggerated. And a direct quote from El Bandido.

From EB: "Octagon is advertising a high symbol rate of 80, which is ridiculous as this is 33% more than the specs of Avalink."

Although it does seem to be a nice receiver. And is pretty much the new kid in town. If you're interested in blindscanning with good results,
It would be wise to look at satellite charts and compare the results.

The findings come from a guy who actually buys many receivers and gives them the torture test. Octagon making performance statements to sell receivers is kind of fishy. I'm holding out on buying one myself. The Supreme, for its identical tuners. Until either the drivers are perfected.
Which is what Edision did with the Os Mio4k series receivers. Instead of going stagnant as is too often found with others.
Unless an even better receiver is released that can blow the SF8008 in the dust comes out. I'll hold out for the time being.

And another from him:
"Attempts to fix the low symbol rate in the SF8008 Supreme are being made. There have been three hi-dvb.ko test drivers as of today, and none of them come close to the advertised symbol rate of 100. As previously mentioned, it has been shown the SF8008 Supreme has Avalink AVL6261C demodulator which is identical to the Edision MIO 4k demodulators. Personally, I think this is a wasted effort, but the SF8008 Supreme should work as advertised."

An example of what I tried. And worked very well. Is taking the TNAP tuner drivers for my Os Mio4k receiver and putting them into an OpenViX image.
Quite an improvement when performing blindscans. Transponders and channels that were previously missed suddenly were there.

Mine was crashy at first but now stable.

Okay. So what if you load the TNAP image in a slot and give it a go?
Perform a backup of ATV on an external drive so that you can grab any files you may need.

Or even OpenViX.

OpenATV used to be my image of choice. Then I switched to ViX. Not wanting to go back at all.
TNAP is actively updated and bugs identified. ATV dev's seem to be knuckle-draggers.

One plus of TNAP and ViX is the ability to check services in signal finder. I put in a request to ATV a long time ago and they kind of put up a snooty nose. No respone and no replies. Maybe they did. I gave up on them.

I found (on the older / original SF8008) certain USB sticks would cause crashing, have you left something inserted in the slot, such as the firmware stick ?

How to distinguish between free to air and encrypted channels

Under Finding signals why always default is 19.2e dish always comes to 19.2e very annoying.
Any ideas thanks

FTA channels give a picture and sound. Encrypted channels don't.

Satellite charts. Set your transponder scan ranges. Exclude ones you don;'t wish to scan. If you;re crafty you can edit your satellites.xml file.
I believe the images I posted earlier have addressed some of the radio channel scan issues.

Did you flash any other images yet?
