I've been asked to quote on the installation of a office background music PA system for a customer and need some help advise on what equipment to install-

This is the customers requirements.-

The Contractor shall be responsible for the detailed design and provision of a public address and background music (PA) system to serve the waiting room and sub-waiting area of the new Medical Centre. The PA system shall be installed in accordance with BS 6259:1997 and shall comprise recessed ceiling loudspeakers arranged to provide even coverage to the whole of the seating area. Ceiling loudspeakers shall be high quality and selected to provide high fidelity sound reproduction.

The Contractor shall provide a suitable amplifier array mounted within a proprietary rack cabinet, integrated within the main reception desk. The amplifier array shall comprise high impedance 110V line amplifier/s, multi-disk CD player, digital DAB radio tuner and paging input/override modules.

A desk mounted, swan-neck paging microphone shall be provided at the main reception desk location. In addition, a paging input module shall be provided compatible with PABX telephone systems so as to allow the Employer’s internal telephone system extensions to page the PA system.

The Contractor shall provide all wiring, interface devices etc as necessary to provide connections between the PA system and the Employer’s PABX telephone system to be housed within the server room.

Not an expert in this area, but I suspect they mean 100v line system. I've previously (but over 10 years ago) used Nimans for telephone equipment.

Is this really going to be worth all the hassle. The code alone is £100-£200 before you've even submitted the quote.

Doing all of this isn't difficult if it's your bread & butter line. But going from a standing start, with no knowledge, and hoping to compete on price against an established installer.... well, unless you know for sure you can get this it's just a waste of time and your money. You don't want to be just another company supplying a price for the bid process. So, what's the chances of you actually winning the business?
