official image from Dream Multimedia TV for DM8000

Hi everyone,

could someone shed some light on the differences between dm8000 images such as Nabilosat, dream-elite, etc......and the official dm8000 release 2.8.4 ?
Nobody I know uses the official dreambox image but noone can tell me why it's better to use other images such as dream-elite and nabilosat for example.

one of the reasons i'm asking is because i've just bought the new Black Creambox remote control and it doesn't work on my DM8000 running Nabilosat v0.12. I sent an email to Dreambox and they replied i needed to reflash my box with official release DM8000_2.8.4 in order for it to work.

The main reason that people use non official DM images is the support of soft cam emulators.
If you are using your box for Free to air programs then the official image is fine. If you need to watch an encrypted television such as SKY you will need to install softcams which will work only with non official images.
Post on Nabilo's forum and see if others have a solution for your problem.
Where did you buy the new black controller?
 
I don't know if this will fix your issue, but its gotta be worth a try. Nabilosat blackhole v0.12 is now very much out of date, as is the team. Nabilo is no more.
I strongly suggest you flash your 8000 with the latest Dream Elite image which is built on the latest drivers and enigma2 release.
if anything will make your new remote work, it will be this.
 
thx a lot guys, i think i might just give the new dream elite image a try.
for future reference, i was also told by dreambox to install the latest frontprocessor upgrade IPK package . i tried the stable opendreambox 1.5 release and the experimental opendreambox 1.6 08102010 release but both failed to give any results.

your input is greatly appreciated guys.
i will let you know how it pans out
 
Not tested on OE 1.5 but my Black remote works fine on 500HD and 800HD using the latest Dream Elite Images.
 
right,
i just flashed dream elite 1.3.3 and restored my settings. the black remote still does not work on my DM8000. It controls the TV fine but nothing on the dreambox. i'm stumped.....any fancy ideas anyone ?
 
I would flash the official image just to see if this is an image related issue.
 
When you press Dreambox on the remote does it illuminate ?

Do you have anyway of testing the output from the remote ?

Failing that there is a plugin for switching/ setting the remote frequency.
 
Ok, we have lift off !

here is how i got the remote control working for future reference.

-install new dream-elite 1.3.3 image
-play with the dip swithes on the new Black dreambox remote control DM8000
- (if that fails, get the latest ipk package for frontprocessor upgrade from the site mentionned below and install)

i had originally tried all the dip switched on the remote but that was on the various other images i tried plus all the various modules i installed(seebelow).

-enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-frontprocessorupgrade_experimental-git20100810-r0_dm8000.ipk
-dreambox-dvb-modules_2.6.12-5.1-brcmstb-dm8000-20090612-r0_dm8000.ipk

these packages can all be found at _http://sources.dreamboxupdate.com]

Also, i had actually bought this new black remote because the original one that came with the box had stopped working. I had tried quite a few tips i had gathered on the forums but it just seemed to have failed probably due to the heavy fall it took. Trawling through various forums again, i came across the following solution. this worked for me. my dead classic remote came back to life

-remove batteries
-place them back in the wrong way round
-then put the batteries back in the right way.

this very daft solution got my remote back to life.

There is also the Gemini 2, - 510 - Image for the DM 8000. This Image has the upgrade for the Front Processor.
