offset LNB Or not ??

can anyone tell me if you need to have your LNB offset if you have a motorised dish ?? or is it only for fixed dishes ?
 
For a motorised dish, you just need one LNB with the skew set to zero.
 
Thanks for the reply, i was not sure.....finally fitted dish tonight, but not made final connections and set up yet..getting kinda nervous..lol
As far as i can work out from reading threads on this forum, i need to set the dish to 0.8 thor 3 satelite..i live in north staffordshire...can you tell me if thats correct ??
 
Whichever satellite is closest to your longitude.

Go to dishpointer to find out.

For example for a longitude of 2 degrees west, yes 0.8 W Thor is the closest.
 
My longitude is -2.1630 degrees, so i take it that it's rounded off to 2 ??

Yes use Thor 0.8W, it's close enough. Not sure of your set up but send your dish there first from zero using USALS prior to alignment.:)
 
Tonight i attempted to "tune in" my satellite dish, but as expected i failed, Here is my set up.....technisat skystar 2 HD Pci card, 85cm dish with technomate TM-2300 Motor. I have power to the dish, as the green LED is lit. I have also downloaded DVBViewer as i have had it recommended to me. I still am not sure about the angles for my dish though. My location is 53 degrees latitude & -2.2 degrees Longitude. I have looked in the manual for the Motor ( see attached images) and as far as i can see, the Elevation angle is 37, the declination angle is 7.6 and the dish bracket angle is 22.4. Now actually setting the elevation is not a problem, as the motor bracket has the markings for elevation on one side, and latitude settings on the other side. I have set the motor bracket to 53 degrees as required, but i still do not understand the next section (sorry) where i need to work out the declination and dish bracket angle, i have no markings what will allow such a setting ! Also what is the dish bracket angle ? i do have markings on the side of the dish bracket, but they go up in units of 10, and there is no 0.1 markers between 10, 20 ,30 etc. i have managed to recieve some channels from thor 3 , Eutelsat @ 0.8w, but only 4 tv channels and 12 radio stations from 71 transponders. Can anyone please offer some support with this small problem ?? many thanks....

Just set the angle approximately, then using the method described in a couple of the tutorials, find Thor and fine tune it.
 
If you want to mess about with the dish angles, set the scale on the dish to 22.4. Pick a tranponder on thor like 11325H BBC world,and send the motor to there using USALS. Then whilst monitor said tranponder, go outside and manually wang the motor round the pole left and right a bit to maximize signal quality on 11325H. If you don't get anything, adjust the dish a bit and repeat until you do. Once you have it spot on, you are finished.
 
Robbo, you say "Pick a tranponder on thor like 11325H BBC world" then tune dish to get best signal strength...sounds like a good idea. So basically i need to work out how to use DVB Viewer first ? Then tell DVB Viewer what satellite/Transponder/Channel i want to view, then use that method to see picture quality/signal strength etc ?? Its similar to the old days when you used to tune your Tv to the Video recorder ? I need to get this sorted asap, as the hydraulic platform goes back on sunday and i aint no good on ladders...lol...many thanks for your patience..
 
Yes, that is correct, that is how it is done. Since you need to get it right first time, you will need to check the other satellites on the arc as well, before losing the cherry picker.
