Old Game - for PC ?

Called Legend of Spyro, or something like that.

My daughter has mentioned this a couple of times in the past week and my search for something that I don't need a dedicated console for has not been successful.

Is the a PC version for this , possibly a free download of the basic game so that if it turns out so be unsuitableI won't have shelled out needlessly.

This is the nearest I could come up in terms of the game itself, looks very Sonic the Hedgehog to me, but what would I know about modern games ? It apparently requires an emulator from a dead link.

 
Spyro? Haven't heard that one for a while, think that was a Playstation or Playstation 2 game (hence the use of an emulator), possibly other console platforms, but not PC, so doubtful you'll find a download of it, but if your lucky you could probably find it for pennies on ebay or in a games trade-in type shop...

Last time I seen Spyro was on the Nintendo Wii I think

There was a working Wii emulator (dolphin I think it was called) for the but I don't know how it would work without the "Wiimote" and sensor bar

It might be worth picking up a cheap second hand Wii for around the £20 mark, they can be easily modified to run "backup games" from USB HDD and SD Cards if they have the right firmware on them
 
Ah, I do have a couple of Wii consoles stored away that I have been awaiting the accessories to turn up at the local charidee shop, though all that has been appearing as of late are Ninendo DS game 'chips'.
 
I wont go into much more detail here but if you search online for Wii Softmod you should find a few good tutorials, once its been softmodded (kind of like root on a droid or jailbreak on an iDevice) you can install a backup loader and your good to go

From start to finish it should take around no less than 15 minutes or no longer than an hour

Thanks, waited for a few weeks and one has turned up in a charidee shop for £30 which includes a des games and a Wii springboard for exercising with. I also found a Hero Guitar 3 but need to find a disk for it, which also came with a third Wiimote. Still looking for a sensor bar though , and the Spiro game needs I think a portal to play it, with only a few days before Christmas.
 
I forgot all about this thread, I think the portal is the same as Skylanders and the Disney one too but don't quote me on that (they're USB jobbies using same tech so I can't see why not)
I bought a sensor bar from the bay years ago for £1 + £2 postage from China

If you want to play while you wait for a sensor bar to turn up, have a look at this

All the sensor bar does is emit infrared light and the wiimote picks up that light to work out where it's pointing

If you Google softmod wii and choose the first Instructables link you'll find a softmod tutorial that is pretty straight forward

Once softmodded you can play DVDs, add media players and emulators and install backup launcher channels so you can boot from USB or DVD+/-r
 
There is a SNES emulator. Just google 'snes emulator the legend of spyro'

Update - all working, though I have a nasty feeling this game requires the purchase of more than a few of the Skyland toys since the distinction is that certain tasks can only be undertaken by specialist characters and/or accessories.

I'll SWMBO tomorrow, she got the Skylanders one (and the Disney one I think) for one of the kids when they first come out (couldn't tell you where the toys are tho) and she's sat and played it with him

Thanks, though our local pawn shop pawn shop has got a few characters for the various versions (Spyro, Giants etc) ranging from pennies to a couple of pounds. I will have a look later. Still need a light bar though, I can't have a six year old throwing a Wii joystick around with a pair of tealights in front of the TV.
 
I've just asked about the Skylanders, apparently you don't need them all to complete the game but...... you need them all to complete all the levels (the levels might go on a percentage where you can finish the level without getting 100%)

The tealights give out infrared light, thats what the wiimote picks up, all you need is 2 sources of infrared light, 2 old sky remotes with buttons jammed in maybe?
 
I can probably rig up a couple of LEDs with a battery, or off the 12v from the satellite receiver port.
