I don't think you can specify the position number on the Technomate either, and no you can't specify a frequency range to search on the Octagon, it's like that on most receivers these days :(

Another option is to set the sat you were trying to save as pos16 to 'no motor', and just carry on from the next satellite that was supposed to be 17. Then when you get to the end of your list go back the satellite that was supposed to be pos16, drive the motor to peak the dish and then save the satellite to whatever position number comes next. The position numbers won't match but each receiver should send the dish to the correct place.
Just tried that but it seems you can't save a satellite on the SX88+ if its set to no motor (off). Its either Usals or DiESeC 1.2. I know if I delete the satellite position number 15 it also deletes the satellite from the SX88+ database.
I have a dummy satellite coming up at number 19 on my list so I'll try to gain back the place then.
Just had a firmware update on the SX88+. Don't know what it does though ?

Tony.

What I meant was for the satellite you were trying to save as pos16, just leave it as no motor, (press exit, exit to go back to the satellite list, the no motor setting will be saved) then go to the next satellite that was supposed to be 17 and hopefully save it as 17.

Instead of a dummy 19 satellite, go back to the satellite that was supposed to be pos16 and save it as 19.

With the SX88, you can certainly create a sat with has no motor settings nor DiSEqC 1.0 or 1.1 settings, and when you do that it won't "do anything" and it won't appear on the main screen when you tap the SAT button on the R/C to bring up the list of available sats to show them in the order of their Longitudes - so I suspect that no position will have been assigned to it.

PS: since I haven't changed the default browser to Chrome, I am still using FF and still don't have access to the commands bar above the text entry field.

@jeallen01 :
SatsUK New here with Firefox under Linux Mint, and I have normal access to the Bold-Italic etc commands bar while typing this.

(Surprised by the "Smart Tech Support Forums", which is new I believe in the name in the address bar of SatsUk?)

Too late to edit the previous post, and so w.r.t. sats with no motor or DiSEqC settings: that's how some/all sats appear in the Installation menu after you switch the Rx on "from new" and before you yourself add the motor/DiSEqC settings appropriate to your own system, and no sats are then shown on the Main Screen when you tap the SAT button on the R/C until you have done that - that's why I suspect that sats without motor or DiSEqC settings are not allocated Position numbers.

@a33 : See my latest posts in this thread - as I said there, I am beginning to think that this issue relates to the "personal" settings within FF, rather than the actual choice of browser

I thought satellites only appear on that list when there are channels scanned in on them, regardless of motor or DiSEqC settings? No channels means the satellite is hidden from that list.

I think both situations are correct - but haven't checked that very recently.

:-rofl2 - if you have an SX88 (or variants) and want to use an Rx like Tony's in the same manner then "keep a close eye" on the thread - otherwise just "sit back and relax" and see "what happens" :p

PS: Had to post this using Chrome because FF on this forum - but not others - is still "playing silly b*g*e*s" on my lounge laptop , as I outlined yesterday!

OK - that seems to be "my problem", but, surely, that's actually a forum OS issue as other user/potential users might be having similar problems (@chris, please "note").

Now, here's the "puzzling" bit - I posted and edited this post in Chrome, but then accidentally did the last edit in FF and found that the smilies that I included in the Chrome edit showed here! Thus, what can one "make of that". and - more importantly - how can I/WE fix that "at this end" (not that we should have to)?

I've tried both Microsoft Edge, and Firefox, using Windows 10, without any problems, and seeing as no one else has reported this issue, you should really check your laptop, including any anti virus/malware software, you might be using.
On Firefox I was running Ad Blocker, Ghostery and Privacy Badger, without causing any problems.

Thanks for that idea ozumo.
After a bit of fiddling with a few satellites I got it to work but haven't a clue how.
I'm back on track now with over half my satellites in their correct numbers & working correctly.

On 45West 11605H there are five radio stations that I tried to get into the SX88+. I managed to get them in ok but the quality level is up & down like a yoyo. The quality level isn't that high anyway but when I switched to the TM7102HD I managed to get them in ok & was able to listen to them without any problem.
Don't know whether that's down to the SX88+ tuner or something else. I even changed the cable from the A-B switch to the SX88+ but it made no difference ?

I've no idea what difference the new version of firmware has made so maybe someone else can comment on that.

Tony.

@Mickha - both laptops are running W10 Pro and Norton 360 antimalware as I try to keep roughly the same Apps and add-ons all PC's here (4 laptops & 2 desktops - all but 1 laptop is on Win 10 Pro, and the other one is on Win 10 Home). Thus I am puzzled, to say the least, as to what/why the differences actually are:confused

PS: @chris needs to "keep an eye" on this thread as it is difficult to keep posting these issues on the "CRAZY" thread.

PPS: posted via Chrome - thus the new smilie.

@Tony Daly: I suspect that that the "difference" between the SX88 and the TM is that, in my own experience, the latter can "deal with" lower symbol rates than the former, especially at SR1000 and lower - whereas the former cannot.

Good idea - I'll aim to do that on the lounge laptop tomorrow, but please bear with me until then.

Did you try running the cable directly from the LNB into the SX88+, bypassing the GBOX? My Primo (same as an SX88+) performs much better on low symbol rates when it is connected directly to the LNB.

No I didn't try that. I'll give it a go tomorrow if I get the chance.
Could be the A-B switch as well but the TM7102HD is connected the same way & doesn't have that problem ?
Makes me wonder if the tuner in the SX88+ is at the same level as the one in the TM & that must be 6 or 7 years old now ?

Tony.

Does the Technomate take it's primary feed from the cable that's looped through the GBOX or from the other input? Also try both feeds from the LNB on the Octagon.

It's entirely possible the Technomate has a more sensitive tuner, despite its age. You could try tuning both receivers to the same channel, then nudge the dish away from the peak and see which box loses signal first.

Personal experience is that the SX88+ tuner is somewhat more sensitive than the one in my old TM5402 M3.
