Ok ..
I have a disc recorder camera inspection unit on my bench today ..Made by a company called ScanProbe ..
Disc stuck inside ...and I'm told disc not recognised prior to failure ..(usually laser failure)
The unit uses an IDE dvd RW 5.25 unit made my BENQ (DR2)
Non standard unit ...insofar as ..it does not have an eject button on the front ..(controlled by firmware)..much as the Xbox units of old ..and no front escutcheon (exposed tray exit)
It may be possible to fit a standard drive physically and have a manual eject button ...but to test this theory ..I first need to get my hands on one..
Problem is ..
they dont appear to make IDE RW drives any longer ..
Anyone got a working unit they want to sell ?
everything is sata these days ..but they must still exist ?
can anyone help here ?
The disc stuck inside says +R ....but I guess +R -R would be best..(RW)

Can't help with a replacement drive but have you looked very closely at the fascia for a hole about a millimetre in diameter through which you can poke a straightened paperclip to release jammed discs?

As said Paul ..there is no fascia ..
No pinhole ..no release function ..
Try and imagine a standard 5 1/4 internal DVD drive with the front removed ...and just the disc tray showing..
Which is why I think a standard drive could be adapted ..but it must be IDE ...as this is the way it is connected ...that and the standard 4 pin molex ..
Physically no loom to fit a sata to IDE adapter ..at the rear..

Got any 5-6 year old computers languishing in a dusty recess of the workshop VS? They will (probably) have IDE / molex dvd drives in them

I have DVD readers only ..
Sadly no writers with IDE..
 
I have them, give me a year of manufacture and I'llsend a couple to you

Hmm. Now I think one of my personal owned old computers is collecting dust in the workshop down the road as a spares donor - drop me an email tomorrow morning & at lunchtime I'll nip into the store and see whats left inside it.

I have an old Sony DVD/CD re-writable drive (DRU-500AX) with an IDE interface you can have, I don't know the condition is in as I pulled it out of an old PC before I scrapped it.

The shipping out to you may be a bit costly, West coast US to the UK.

I might even have the drivers disk if I look hard enough.
 
That looks like a standard dvd drive with the front colour matching panel & the facia surround taken off - they only clip on

Try poking a paperclip into the little slot centre right & see if it engages with anything - that would be in about the right place for the drive latch
 
Shouldn't be a problem , will look in the dungeon tomorrow morning

Can you take a better picture of the label ?

Indeed it does AS ...but notice ..there is no eject button on mine ..
it is done via the front panel of the main unit ..so I assume under software control ..
Like selecting eject on your PC ...not pushing a button as such..
I'd happily have bought a new one and just removed the fascia ...BUT ..at 12 years old ...no longer made..

I'll wait n see what CH digs from the dungeon first ..on account he may just have a BENQ or Philips ...

Given the drive is a standard IDE drive, it's probable that the inspection unit won't really care what brand it is, so long as it's an IDE DVD Writer... :)

Definitely got Benq, possibly the same circuit board but a better sticker image will confirm
