One metre dish...solid or mesh?

My Satellite Setup
Humax HDR1100S Freesat Recorder. Octagon UHD satellite box with Gibertini 1m motorised dish. Triax TD78 for Freesat. Triax TD64 for Freesat to 3 rooms. 2 Panasonic Freeview+ HD recorders.

Next year, I will be upgrading from an 80cm solid dish on my motorised system. I have seen a 1m black mesh on Ebay (new) for just less than £40 delivered which I think is a good deal. I'm favouring the mesh over a solid as we get very high winds in my location, though ideally I would like a solid 1m Triax.

I'm sure you will all have an opinion about this so over to you guys! :)
 
Go for a lightweight solid dish like the Gibertini 1.04.

Triaxes are desperately heavy and a nightmare to set Elevation accurately.

I'm not convinced Mesh dishes offer significant reductions in windage, although they will be relatively light.
 
Hi Tivu! I have heard of these being praised widely. Roughly what's the cost of a Gibby dish?

I guess you might do better with a Special Offer if you can afford to wait.
 
From the firms I normally deal with here, a 1M Gibertini ranges between €69 - €73 plus carriage. As Tivu says, you may be able to find a better deal in the UK.
 
Jmo, solid all the way. My 1.2m solid outperforms my 10' mesh bud on ku.

Mesh (perforated) dishes are great when you want to hide them away, one spray of paint and they fade into the background. That can make a dish farm more palatable to moaners.

They are also good if you really need something lightweight.

Maxx Digital mesh dishes are the best as the back plate and arm design helps keep it rigid.


Otherwise the Gibertini is what you want!
