One of my windows has just been smashed

Now I need to sort this out! What's going to be the cheapest way off doing it?
 
If it's a dual pane window your stuck with going to a glass company for replacement as they are a sealed unit.

You may have to have them pull the window out of the frame, but some are just held in place with a few screws, remove the opener and see whats there holding the fixed panel in place, it may just be a retainer, removing that will allow the fixed pane to be slid over and popped up into the frame to be removed to the inside of the house.

But before doing this get some clear packing tape and apply it lavishly to the cracked part, this will keep it from shattering and going all over the place when you remove it.

What hit it? Looks like a rock hit from a lawn mower?
 
I was gardening around the front, just finished and came in through the garage and spotted it, I have fallen out with the pub at the back off my house.

Don't you have a cam looking at that location? Or is the sign in the window just a bark!

Yes there is 2 cameras normally, but powered from the garage, as I was out the front, I had the power socket for the gardening. So no camera rolling at the time.
 
Scum, I'd gladly bounce a half building brick off the wee fuds face that did it.

I have absolutely no idea on the cost, I can probably kiss good bye to £200 I bet. That's if I can get just the light changed.
 
Well it was not a small object, probably a rock or similar. The only reason I say is because about 10 years ago my mum had double glazing put in the house she used to live in. I went around to check the quality of work done and whilst looking at the toilet window was greeted by a loud noise and there was a small star in the corner of the window on the outside pane. I immediately called the police and by chance the policeman who lived at the back of the house was just leaving for his shift and called round, he looked out of the toilet window and saw a toe rag closing his skylight window, he ran out of the house and caught the teenager who decided to try out his dad's air rifle from his loft window. My mum did not want him prosecuting and his dad paid for a new sealed unit to be made. That star was produced by something the size of less than a cricket ball.
 
I don't know what happened, but if it was an air rifle, wouldn't it have left a little slug behind?
 
There would be a collapsed pellet somewhere, but they tend not to penetrate, not enough momentum
 
Yes pal, have you contacted the police people firing air rifles at peeps windows should not be on the streets.
 
How to replace a sealed unit window:


Sadly suffers puke-o-vision "stabilising", but you get the gist of it, you just need to buy the glass unit (measured properly) and you can fit it yourself... :)
 
Replaced 3 in the past ..2 due to misting (seals broken) ...and one that was smashed during a road gritting session one Christmas ...the council wouldn't accept responsibility ..
So removed the old ones myself ..measured them exactly and went to a local glass sealed unit suplier with the measurements and had them made ..
Sometimes a stock item..
Easy enough to replace with the right tools ..
I used thin blade wallpaper scrapers to pop out the plastic fillets...

Once you've done one you'll never pay someone again ...having gained the confidence to DIY

So far All the company's want me to have new windows and doors through out.

it seems most of the named company's don't want to know.

A few more people to ring first.
