M 2-1 went off the planned trajectory shortly after launch, and is nowhere near the expected orbit.

Russia loses contact with new satellite

Roscosmos to update on progress at midnight (UK 2100)

Russian news agencies reported the likely cause was the failure of the booster's final stage, the Fregat. The booster also carried 18 micro satellites built in Canada, Germany, Japan, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States.

The RemoveDebris spacecraft will attempt to snare a small satellite with a net and test whether a harpoon is an effective garbage grabber.

They should call it Spartacus

"Kommersant" learned details of the investigation of the fall of "Meteor-M"
Two commissions have been appointed to investigate the fall of the Meteor-M satellite, which have "questions" to Lavochkin's NGO (producer of the upper stage) and Andrei Kalinovsky, executive director for quality and reliability of Roskosmos, Kommersant writes .

The first commission will be headed by a representative of Roskosmos, and the second chairman of the scientific and technical council of the state corporation Yuri Koptev, with the second commission checking the results of the first.

If the problems are in the overclocking block of the Frigate, they will be sent for reassembly, and the third launch of the Soyuz from the Vostochny spaceport, scheduled for December 22, may also be postponed. The newspaper specifies that the problems with the "Frigate" have increased.

Kommersant also learned that in order to find the device in orbit, the Russian Defense Ministry used space control systems, Moscow even had to turn to the command of the North American Air Defense (NORAD) for help. However, it has not yet been possible to detect the satellite.

Earlier, the media put forward the version that the satellite "Meteor-M" fell in the Atlantic Ocean. In the "Roskosmos" in detail do not comment on the situation, but only confirm the loss of the satellite and the fact that it went into orbit.

Recall, November 28 from the cosmodrome in the Amur region launched thesecond in its history missile at 8:41 (MSC). The three-stage Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle should deliver a hydrometeorological spacecraft into orbit. The Meteor-M satellite had to separate from the launch vehicle at 9:32 AM (MSC) and transmit telemetry, which did not happen.

The TASS interlocutors note that if the first engagement of the propulsion engine did not take place, the Meteor-M could fall into the ocean, if the second power-on of this engine did not occur, then the device may be in an off-set orbit.

If they cant find it in orbit and NORAD cant find it in orbit then it may be in my back yard, (or fell somewhere else back to Earth) I will go have a look and see, if I do find it I will setup a garage sale for this weekend.

You may be lucky as reading the article, they have no idea where the failure happened, when it happened and why it happened and where the junk is now however they are confident that it will come back to earth in the ocean. This assumption defies all logical thought processes and reasoning so it is tin hats at the ready:(:-lol:-toilet

Just in - According to the Russian News Agency, somebody spotted a bear in the forest paused in thought and when they went closer it turns out he was looking at part of the upper stage.

I can't believe these idiots are still allowed to launch things into space, let alone in business...
