been thinking of getting a hd receiver and have seen these for around 100 pound which seems a bargain.

anyone bought one ?

are they decent build quality hardware wise and not just a cheap chinese copy.

does it run actual linux and not just one of them receivers made to work with you know.

otherwise i've been looking at the tm5402, i've had a tm1500 so know what they are like.

thanks

As they are basically hard wired (commercial) card share receivers discussion of them is frowned upon on the forum.

Vipersan has one and says it is a fantastic receiver. Very sensitive tuner and does a full blind scan of DVB-S and DVB-S2 transponders in under 2 minutes (which is pretty cool). It runs a Linux operating system, but not Enigma, which crashes on certain channels. It can run a CCcam client (not server) so it would be great as a cheap second box in another room in a multi-room setup, but not as your main box.

Not linux, only lets you import a CCcam file, which makes it client only. So you can ony use it with a commercial share..unless you have a nice friend :D

Forgeting about C/S it's not bad value for money. Is there another FTA box that can play MPEG4, and does fast blind scan for less than 100 GBP?

What current PCI card has hardware blind scan and can do a full search in under 2 minutes?

that is interesting the blind scan, is it a full 1-5mhz steps scan or only software based ?

looking at it, it would be my main receiver so probably best to look elsewhere but is tempting for the blind scan and a cheap way to watch hd channels

Not sure on the step size but it's supposed to find almost everything. Struggles with low symbol rates though; for example Canal Info News on 45ºW has an SR of 1240 and it won't lock that (but then again how many receivers will?).

And as you say it is definitely a cheap route to HD channels... For someone who already has an SD Dreambox and a FSFS or subscription card it would allow them to watch C4 HD and C5 HD as well as the FTA HD channels.

Sorry to go off topic... but what does that mean? Also, would be interesting to time a full search. And can it lock low symbol rates like Canal Info News, mentioned above?

I've got one of these boxes and so far it seems pretty good and the picture quality is excellent. It just doesnt have the features a DM800HD has for example but if your just looking for a box that receives the HD channels and nothing else then this box is perfect. Another tgood thing about these boxes is that they don't get very hot, i leave mine on constantly and from touching it you'd think it had been on a couple of hours.

I have just got one of these. I can confirm blind scan is the fastest I have seen - 2 to 3 minutes each for 13, 19. and 28 E. Out of the box it also works with a Sky World subscription card on all subscribed channels SD and HD - although premium channels required input of paired box serial number in Hex format (had to find online decimal to Hex converter). I don't know whether it will update the card as mine normally lives in its Sky HD box - so perhaps others can confirm or deny this. Seems to happily record to USB devices - both HDD in caddies and USB memory sticks. Picture quality seems excellent both HD and SD on my TV.

IIRC, Sky World is the top level sub. for the rich, which includes all BSkyB Mixes and Premium Channels.

My guess is that it will update. The Spiderbox 7000 does update a white card and to me it looks a lot like the same box, just without the "gift" and a whole lot cheaper.

I haven't got one, but my understanding is no. To update anything (even CCcam.cfg) you have to do it via the USB port using the box menu to control the transfer.
