Operating FoxSat HDR without RCU?

I managed to go on holiday with my Humax Foxsat box without bringing the RCU. Damn difficult to operate; especially missing the coloured buttons to access the recordings.
Spent half an hour with the few front panel buttons, but i cannot figure out how to access the pvr part.
only option i can think of is to buy a cheap universal remote and provram as humax...
any suggestions otherwise?
 
I did the same thing once myself. I couldn't find any way to access recordings either.

When I say I forgot the remote it was actually my wife. And I didn't let her forget it.

You forgot your wife? That would be difficult in our household... But perhaps not unpleasant for a while :confused
 
If you have a wired network, and you have a computer and you have installed Raydon's modified firmware........there is a remote control on the HDR's webpage that it generates......yup impractical, I know, but it works for future reference........:rolleyes:
 
Not impractical at all - I use the Web Interface quite a lot.

Fortunately my Router is located adjacent to the HDR, so the Ethernet connection is a cinch.

My various WiFi enabled devices are all then capable of controlling and managing everything on the HDR apart from tea-making.

Yes, I twigged that later.

Shirley even holiday homes have Routers these days, though?

Then again, anyone prone to forgetting the Telecommando might equally forget to take a Smartphone or Tablet!
 
Never forgotten my laptop or phone yet!

Ufortunately, this is a standard Foxsat with the normal SW on it.
So no remote access or web-servers etc.
Until I get near a Carrefour (or similar), I have resorted to attaching the external "spill-over" USB HDD to a Linux PC, and playing back the TS files via HDMI to the telly.
Not as practical as an STB, especially without a remote, but that's back to the real cause of the malady.

I've been in this situation a few times - any number of smartphone apps will control 95% of devices out there.

Obviously requires a phone with an IR blaster.

Well, blimey.
Hadn't thought about that.
Checked the playstore, and sure enough, there's a plethora claiming to be compatible with my HTC One.
Downloaded AnyMote, and I just found out today, that the power button is also an IR blaster on the HTC One.
Wasn't really aware of that!
App works great (not like a remote, but OK).
Can access all recordings both on device and on USB dish.
Problem solved. No need to purchase french remotes etc.
