Although I can receive incoming e-mail, I can't send any.

I use BT Broadband with Outlook Express, and every time I open OE, I get the Log-on Box, asking me to provide user name and password. These are already there, with the 'Remember Password' blanked out.

OK'ing the box merely brings it up again.

Whilst doing this and checking account details (all correct), incoming e-mails arrive with no problem.

The fellow at the Indian call centre just told me to do what I had already checked - account details - so that was a dead end.

I suspected a corrupt password, but using a PW sniffer brings up the correct one.

I have a BT 0800 number to try later, but I suspect I'll get the same 'help' as from the call centre.

Any ideas folks? I'm stranded!

This is from memory, helping out a mate last year. Delete your OE user and recreate it.

Do you have the option to use web mail? Try your username/ pwd there. If it works, OE is at fault.

After that, if still not working, try your broaband dial-up logon file: delete and recreate.

I had similar problems a year or so ago, it turned out to be my Antivirus/Firewall program causing it, disabling the antivirus enabled email sending. :)

PS. It had been alright, but a new update had caused the problem, took them a couple of weeks to solve it. :)

Thanks chaps, I'll try your suggestions and report back.

May be something to do with my Symantec AV/FW Rolf, seems to have happened after a recent update now I recall.

Not sure about web e-mail mhku, never looked into that option.

Well I use Outlook and the website says you must have the box ticked that says My Server Requires Authentication under account details.

Web mail I also use for the majority of my mail then anything I want to download I open Outlook

It's working OK now, before 11:00 this morning it was still knackered.

I haven't done anything to get it working, strange indeed.

Just a thought - I asked to be upgraded to Broadband Option 2 two weeks ago, haven't had any confirmation yet. Maybe they are fiddling around with my account this morning?

Don't hold your breath, I asked BT to be upgraded to 8MG 13 months ago and I am still waiting

Well, the opposite applies with me Topper - they've been offering me an upgrade for several months, so I finally succumbed.

They can give 4Mb max. Although I'm only 1.8 miles from the local exchange, the loop does a few twists and turns before it reaches me :-DOH2

<Speed is what they offer and ask money for

8MB is what they deliver here in Sweden, asking payment for 24MB:eek:

Nutters, don´t trust them for ONE second
