I've had to bite the bullet and update from Win2K to XP on the works PC in order to use the next generation of browsers.

At the same time the drive has been upgraded to a 160GB version as the original was found to be wanting at 7.5GB.

The email system remains Outlook Express but I thought the in/out bxes would remain on the ISP as they promised, however upon reconnecting they have been deleted.

The old drive probably still has the majority of info to rebuild the records, but I wouldn't know where to start pulling them.

Can anyone advise on the pertinent file names and whether they might work in the XP environment if I transferred them over ?

They should work. With XP I usually transfer the entire folder to Apllication Data, but with Windows 2K you might have to set up the drive as a slave, to XP, and use the Outlook import option. Do you have Microsoft Word installed?
This can make it easier as Words Outlook program can import all the mail, from Outlook Express, providing you've got the Administrator rights, then be tranferred to Word Outlook on the new drive.
It has been way too long since I used Win 2K, so I can't remember the file path, in XP you could use the Explore option, go to view, folder options, and select Show hidden files. Once done Outlook Express was in Users, "username", Local, Application data, Outlook, or something like that. of course it doesn't show up until activated.
I seem to remember Win 2k had a lot of safety protocols, to stop normal users from accessing system files, but I doubt these are much good against some of the software available.

In Outlook Express the files were .dbx so if you do a search you should hopefully find the messages.

And it all appears to be transfering over.

In the end I couldn't find anything in the Word programme, so attempted three times to import with Outlook Express, and finally got the configurations correct using compatibility mode in OE6 to look for OE4 files on the slaved drive.

Correct folder for the .dbx files was E:/docs and settings/default/application data/identities/4027XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXX/Microsoft/Outlook Express.
