I have a Panasonic Sky digibox and just recently it has started switching itself off after a couple of hours i.e. it goes from green to red. If I then unplug device and plug back in everything works fine again for a couple more hours. It was originally connected to a flat screen tv which broke down a few days ago and now I have it connected up with a 10 year old square box tv and that's when the problem started. As I live in Italy I am a little concerned taking the digibox in to be looked at in case I lose my Sky connections. Any suggestions would be most grateful?

First thing, have you turned off Autostandy option, which puts the box into "off" or Standby if no remote control buttons are pressed after a few hours?

hello,
all boxes have a short circut protection on the lnb power.
if there is a small sliver of outer brade that is just tuching perhaps if there is a small wind the box will go to standby.
try to redress the 2 f connectors on each end and see if this resolves the problem.

hello,
tonight try to disconect the satellite lines from the box and leave it on all night.
if the light is green in the morning the box is ok.
if the light is red there is a problem with the box.
all boxed have a short circut protection inside on the lnb line.
iif the box is still on with no satellite line conected then the line or the lnb may have a problem.

This is the same model as i have...it was given to me by a friend..It has a well known fault that if you tune to a weak channel (for me ch4/bbc2 england during the day) it will lock up..and as you say the only way to get it to work again is to disconnect it from the mains..Its a shame as it is a good receiver with a good tuner..i searched it a lot when i first saw the problem and there are a lot of posts about it...As far as i know there isn't a cure for it

I seem to remember that came after a firmware update some years ago had a side effect in weak signal areas and was never fixed.

The only rememdy appears to be a stronger signal. Check your connections and cable for water ingress or poor joints but I suspect you'll probably need a larger dish and/or new LNB.

Yes thats right Paul...Thats what i read about the firmware also..Lnb and cabling is fine...in my case its the weak signal that makes it lock up...A bigger dish would improve it slightly..Im not overly fussed, i just avoid my known weak channels during the day

Green light is still on after leaving it disconnected from satellite overnight so sounds like lnb-will replace it. Yes you're right, have always had a problem with it locking on weak channel but never switching itself off.

Have changed lnb and as before "no satellite signal received" comes up for a good long while before picture comes up. Now the green light on the box remains on but after few hours viewing, locks even on strong channels, which it has never done before. Also when it locked in the past one unplug/plug would do the trick-now it takes several and an awfully long wait! Any other suggestions as to what it could be?

Thanks Ralph-tried it but no luck. Have had no signal at all now for most of yesterday. Strange it worked once with new lnb and then never came back. I was thinking it may be new lnb as it is a universal one. The old one was a Sharp-maybe I'll try and get hold of same model again.
