Hi, just a quickie!

I`m trying to patch my 1500ci+ but my laptop only has a female 15 pin serial port.

The null modem cable has a 9 pin female connector at both ends.

Seeing as I could not find for love nor money a m/m gender changer that was 9 pin on one side and 15 pin on the other, I had to buy a m/m 9 pin both sides and a f/m adaptor as well (female 9 pin, male 15 pin) which allows me to connect my laptop to the receiver.

Not it is all connected, Technomate Loader cannot see a com whatsoever, autodetect or otherwise.

My question is will the marrying of two gender changers together, instead of using just the one, have caused a problem, or could it be the cable itself?

Typical of having a newish laptop which is all USB this and that!

Cheers

Phil

Hi philh,
most modern laptops don't have a Com port, but a USB to serial adapter usually works, read around the forums though as some cheaper models, located on a certain auction site, don't work correctly.
They are reasonably cheap, but it might be best to get one from an established dealer where you can get support if the adapter is not compatible, or change it.
Best wishes
Mickha

try a pcmcia to serial adapter thats what i use

Thank you very much for your advice. I should have known it wouldnt be as straghtforward as it seems!

Just received my serial adaptor this morning and have now completed my first successful patch!

A historic moment in my so far brief satellite career!

Thanks for the advice everyone, much appreciated.
