I have a client who is asking if it is possible to link up a PC via router or ethernet to a Freesat Humax HDR and play movies from the PC down to the Humax to the TV?
If it is possible, links or assistance in how to do this and settings requires would be very much appreciated...
I have had a look around, but cannot find much on it

Cheers

As far i know it does nothing for the time being....

There IS a patch to turn the Hummy into a sort of media centre but it's strictly bleeding edge software. I haven't plucked up the courage to do it. This from a post by Analoguesat:-

Just seen this over at DS - might be of interest to some of our folks:

Following some stuff on the avforums from mogie...

1) Enable FTP & Telnet (on foxsat) --> -http://bit.ly/hZfs5w

2) Install Twonkymedia (on foxsat) ---> -http://bit.ly/dNRp5b

3) Install XBMC on any pc ---> -http://xbmc.org

4) Install on pc (quick twonky restart) ---> -http://bit.ly/esHgpt

once done, you should now be able to watch all your recordings through XBMC from your Humax (without waiting)

should look like this

all in folder order just like if you were using your humax.

Please let us know if you decide to go down this route. If you do we'd love a blow by blow account.

Thanks for the replies.
Somehow I dont think I shall start messing around with the settings / firmware for the client...

Yes this is possible
If you have AVI movies on your PC you can play them back on your Humax over the network.
To do so, you need to connect the Humax Network socket via Ethernet cable to your network.
Then you need software on the PC which functions as a Media Server
XBMC is a free program which does this using the standard of DLNA which is compatible with the Humax.
See _http://xbmc.org/download/ Downloads | XBMC
You then configure XBMC Library, adding the Windows folders which contain your movies.
Leave XBMC running on your PC.
From Humax Remote select Media Button then Network.
It should show XBMC: Media Server, select that.
Then browse down thru your Video Library & select what you wish to play.

My experience has been that XBMC is quite clunky & not intuitive to use.
Also DLNA lists media by Video & Music.
But worth trying as it is a superb feature once you get it all set-up.
Good Luck
