Nice pic - is that a red kite circling over the rooftops?

Rolf what do you think?

Looks brown or black to me definitely no strings attached perhaps a falcon :P

I think it's just one of the local crows, they're pretty big birds...:)

Big as in thunder thighs or are we talking more eye level appendages :)

I think you've got the wrong kind of bird in your mind... :-rofl2

Looks like a Red Kite, with the tail, but too distant to be precise. :) Nice photo though. :)

PS. Is that the roof you were standing on? Rather you than me. :)

I'm certainly no bird expert but even I can tell that the tail feathers are of bird of prey of some kind!

Hope you don't mind, had a little play and changed the lighting slightly, adding a little more cloud contrast, to see what it would look like. :)

If it is a BoP, that was one hell of a coincidental snapshot!!! :D

And I was actually still on my ladders poking through the skylight, if I was a little higher (aka, on the roof) the telephone lines wouldn't have been in the way... :)

As for playing with the photo, that's fine, it looks good... :D

Actually, any ideas what that tripod aerial's for? It looks ancient!!!

Looks like the remnants of a CB antenna, with only the ground plane radials remaining.

I thought CB antennas were just a long pole-type antenna? Or are/were there different kinds of antenna?

This one looks like an old Procom antenna with ground plane a bit like the one pictured below, they were quite common in the old analogue CB days.

Ah, so back in the day it would have been much taller?

Yes, by quite a bit. :)

No wonder it's missing it's top half!!! The winds that blow here (mostly from the west) can be pretty strong, as my aerial found out... :D
