An interesting entry has appeared in the Freesat SDT today - 'Pick' with a service type of 25 (HD). This is in addition to 'Pick' (SD) and 'Pick +1'.

It points to SID 5829 on TSID 2034 (12363V S2-8PSK 27500 2/3).

This isn't yet broadcasting, but it's worth keeping an eye on this TP, which is one of the few Sky-operated UK beam transponders.

Thats a good point - please dont rip content off from other sites without correct attribution. It causes bad feeling between site operators - and in the past has caused hassle for us as well.

Sorry about that, I usually put 'Courtesy of xyz' at the bottom of such posts, not sure why I forgot to on this occasion. Apologies again.

The 1st Football match on Pick is on Friday, 19 June: Norwich v Southampton (18:00), Sky Sports and Pick.
So maybe Pick HD will be active by then,
The test 5829 has left Astra 2E UK beam (12363V S2-8PSK 27500 2/3) atm when I scanned it was not there with the SX88+ ?

Back to the old technology TM5502HD & 5829 is there on 12363V S2-8PSK 27500 2/3 :)
I wonder why the muti-stream receivers could not see this transmission ?

It's been noted that the EPG data starts rolling at 6am on 17/6/20, so this gives them two days leeway to sort out any problems.

Pick HD is now running with video/audio. EPG data starts tomorrow morning - the first FTA Premier League game is scheduled to be this Friday (19/6).

12363V S2-8PSK 27500 2/3 - 'Pick'.

Fairly sure this is on Astra 2F's UK spot beam.

When I checked Pick HD channel it was the same as the SD channel. THE EPG is working on the SD channel so its useful to use it until the EPG works on the Pick HD channel. :)

ITV 2HD / ITV 3HD / ITV 4HD were created solely to generate extra revenue for ITV in an era of declining advertising revenue. (Originally to skim funds off the Sky HD service subsidy). The other thing to remember is HD is more expensive to transmit than the equivalent HD service - its a simple balancing act for the beancounters - will going fta with the extra services cover its running costs by generating extra advertising revenue? I would suggest the answer is no - we all know loads of folk that are quite happily watching SD channels when an HD version is a few clicks away. Either they arent bothered or dont care - and with the UK heading into recession the outlook isnt looking too clever atm.

Think it's safe to assume the hd version of pick will quietly disappear after the football is finished. They haven't even called it "Pick HD" on the sky epg - all other high def sky channels have hd tagged onto the channel name.

Decent sd has always been good enough for me. No one needed hd until those new fangled flat panel televisions came out.

I think the HD version is here to stay as there is a lot more Football & other sport for the coming season on Pick HD as bigger screens become more popular & cheaper than a few years ago,
More than likely is the demise of the SD version as did the SD version of Free Sport,

SD TV will gradually disappear over the next few years.

Indeed - Pick has gone HD primarily as a consequence of Sky only having spotbeam capacity for DVB-S2/HD services at present.

If this was long-term (and they may decide over the next few weeks that it will be) one would expect them to actively market the channel as HD, and it would have replaced the SD channel on Freesat (instead, they went to the effort of launching a separate rights-compliant service).

Decent SD in my opinion is hard to come by, most of it is so starved of bandwidth to cut costs it doesn't stack up with even a small HDTV. Sport needs HD, higher bandwidth, larger colour gamut etc. SD might be suitable for shows that have lots of static scenes but not for sport.

Yep and Pick was always one of the grottier looking channels. I do find plasma tvs to be the most forgiving of low quality channels, I watched the TT programme on itv4 sd tonight and it was decent enough.

IMO sport needs high frame rates, fast shutter speeds and low persistence televisions. Detail just melts away as soon as anything moves on sample & hold displays.

Seen an unconfirmed report that Sky have tweeted that Pick HD is here to stay.
