I don't see many differences in 'picture quality' between receivers these days. Pick the receiver that best suits your needs. The television and its settings will make much more difference.

Digital in digital out. I don't see any way for the receiver to affect "Picture quality" unless you chose to have it output a lower resolution than the original transmission.

Sorry I have little experience with Enigma receivers. For myself I would choose the SF8008 but only because the manufacturer provides regular updates and has a presence on this site.

The performance of the video scaler can affect image quality, but again there is very little difference as most, if not all, receivers are very good at this these days.

Too many variables to even attempt to have an opinion. My Zgemma H9s has 16 output resolutions. Did the person expressing the opinion that the sx88 had a poor SD picture try all the output resolutions or did they exp0ect the sx88 to convert the SD to 4k? Was their TV up-scaling?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

The main part that will affect picture quality will be the hardware that controls the HDMI (or other - component / display port) and its maximum through speed, currently around 50Gbps for the highest definition with add-ons.

Size of the PCB in the receiver, the internal and exterior screening (plus proximity to the high voltage parts) will also impact to a lesser or greater degree on the final image shown on the screen.

Have not got any modern 4k box (yet, no channels to look at!), with the HD receivers I've used over time the HD always fine but quite some differences in SD (upscaling) quality. So I'd imagine that if one is mostly watching HD (or in the future 4K), any modern box delivers, any differences could be in the way they handle SD.

Choice of new box would be based upon general, daily usefullness, speed, tuner sensitivity, clever functions etc, could very probably buy anyone of the boxes listed by op regarding picture quality. As it stands now, my vu solo2's are still delivering.

Personally, I think it is impossible to make recommendations, there are too many variables involved to be realistic in one's visual appraisal, those variables include

Dish type
LNB type
cabling efficiency
suitability of dish location
ambient temperature
EM shielding
power supply stability
tuner capabilities
Display medium
Also your own visual acuity.

For example whilst my wife still is capable of distinguishing between HD and SD she would happily watch SD as HD does little to improve her enjoyment

My wife is the same - unfortunately - and that's why I always have a bit of a problem when upgrading the AV system!

Picture qu ality is a very subjective item being a compromise between sharpness and motion blur for the same processing power and is very much down to the viewer (and all the other factors mentioned above) so your question is a matter of personal preferences and noone can give you a definitive answer

Only thing I would add is if you have an HDR capable TV make sure you buy an HDT receiver.
