Anyone had any success with this? On other receivers, if I just open the .TS file in VLC - it plays fine - but I have no such luck with the TM5402 :( It just flashes between '00:00' and '--:--' in the corner, and refuses to play.

I tried to convert a recording with MediaCoder, but it just seems to flicker. Any ideas?

I seem to have lots of files for each folder or a recording...

A 4KB .idx file
A 2KB .ifo file
A 5KB .prv file
A 5KB .prv2 file
A large .ts file (normally this would just play with VLC via other receivers)
2 0KB .mda files

I have come across this myself.

I use ffmpeg to "remux" the .ts file.

ffmpeg -i blah.ts -c copy blahremuxed.ts

Might be if you're running a flavour of Linux avconv is baked in if so replace ffmpeg with avconv in your terminal window.

Thanks. Will give it a try! Thought first of all that the USB drive couldn't keep up with the high data rate of the feeds... But the same thing even happens on low bitrate channels. Seems like a strange bug!

I still can't work out why these recordings don't play. As remlap says, it's possible to re-encode them with software - but it seems really odd that they won't play on the receiver or directly from the file itself. Is it possibly something to do with the fact that the receiver uses FAT32, but doesn't split the files up (like other receievers I've used) so that they're under 2GB, and playable?

Anyone found a work around for this? I'd prefer not to have to re-econde stuff if I don't have to :/

Although I don't have the same receiver I use MPC for the HD recordings that VLC won't play on a Windows PC. Might be worth a go?

At the receiving end.

I have a TM6902, & had a similar problem, when I attached a 320GB hard drive, not long after purchasing the receiver.
What cured it, so that the receiver would play the original files, was to re-format the drive using the menu option on the receiver itself. Bingo! The saved files would then play.
However, when transferring the files to my iMac, I have to convert them using handbrake, or otherwise, I can't get them to play, no matter what media player (including VLC) I use.

Hope this helps. NB: if you choose to re-format the USB stick, back it up on a PC, first!!
