Please help me to clarify a few things ...

My Satellite Setup

I am looking to get a satellite setup, never had one before. I was looking at the Technomate TM-7102 HD reciever for the livingroom and in time a cheaper box for each of the bedrooms. I was also looking at getting a 110cm dish and a diseqc motor setup.

Is it just a case of only one box can control the motor?
Is it one cable from the reciever that goes through the motor to the LNB?
Am I going for overkill on this setup?

Any dummies guides? I cant even remember the last time I seen a satellite reciever.
 
The TM-7102 HD has two satellite inputs so you can record one channel and watch another rather like Sky+HD so you'll need two cables going outside to a multiple output LNB but only one of the cables will pass through the motor to provide power and instructions to it, the other will connect directly to the LNB.

If you are planning on sharing the dish with other boxes in the future it might get confusing as you can only see one satellite at a time so everyone will have to agree on what satellite to watch.

If you only watch to watch a few satellites you could consider getting a fixed dish with a multi LNB bracket so that each receiver would be totally independent.
 
Well I was thinking of getting an fixed dish as well later on with an LNB bracket it on it and putting 3 LNB's on that. Then for each reciever getting 2 x 2 way switches. That way each box would have the three fixed LNB and one for the motorised dish.

Does that make sense/sound good?

Also can I add Sky onto this sort of setup or do I need an actual Sky box? Can I get away with it with just a Sky subscription?
 
For Sky subscriptions you are best off with a Sky box. Some receivers will read the subscription cards but they tend to be receivers at the enthusiasts end of the range.

Any Sky box(es) will need a fixed dish pointing at 28E
