hi there peeps hopfully this is a fixable issue i have here.

basically i come home tonight to find no power to my STB wicth is a SL65 (silver cast i think)

i had to do 'the process of elimination' and it turns out the STB will turn on and work fine when the LMB is unplugged .... it just says 'no signal' as expected... soon as the LMB plug goes in--- "POOF" all off cuts right out.

anyone herd of this before ?

if so how do i go about fixing the issue please.

Any info would be appreciated

Probably a short circuit on the cable. Check to see if theres any whisps of the outer braid shorted across to the inner conductor at the screw connector behind the receiver (Turn it off, disconnect the f-connectore and unscrew it off the coax), or see if anyone has put a nail through the cable.....

ok well after reading this i got out my multi meter and tried testing it to see if there was a circuit between 'inner and outer' and there is ... but ive checked the cable from STB to dish and all is still intact and ok, ?

cutting a long story short... all is fine and how it was when i left it but from LNB plug to dish the wires Must be in contact somewhere ?

You would need to disconnect the lnb and the receiver end to do a proper continuity test - remember the lnb is an electrical device as well.

For some reason your first post got moderated (often happens with members with few posts - and has been known to nail staff posts as well!)

I have the same problem, but after a few second everything works normal.I changed the LNB, same problem. I don't have the problem with my internal avermedia card; only with my head FT500 ext receiver

hello i saw this and i agree with analogquest.
if the power cuts out you mean the box goes in standby mode.
the the cable is shorted or the lnb itself could be bad.
one small outer braid shorted will cause the box to shut down.
it is the short circut protection in the box.
disconect the cable at the lnb and check the cable without anything conected.
if it shows shorted redress the f conectors on both ends and check again.
once its open or good then conected it to the lnb.
if it is shorted then it will happen again.
if by power cuts you mean the mains in the house shut down.
the box can not cause this with a short circut lnb cable.
keep us informed
ralph:)

Sounds like a short circuit on the cable/LNb as said.

Very very unlikely but it's not the only thing that would cause a similar symptom. The switch mode power supply could have fault whereby it's failing on load and shutting down :)

Nice to know the short-circuit protection works properly, too :)
