'Please insert card' error

I've just bought a box off of ebay and connected it to my existing sky dish. I am getting the 'please insert card' message come up on channels which I know are FTA such as Film4, True Movies, Zone Horror etc. I don't have a card as I intended using it only for the free channels. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I already have digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to get access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a freesat viewing card which costs just £20.

Sorry to contradict, but you don't need a card for those; only Ch4 and 5.

You may be running an old version of software/EPG on the digibox, try doing a forced update and Film 4 etc should spring to life.

Do this by unplugging from the mains and then plugging back in whilst holding in the Backup button on the digibox itself, keep this pressed in until all of the panel lights come on, the process then takes ten minutes or so. Can't see why this should make a difference, but worth a try anyway. :)
