Hello everyone, I have a TM Nano SEM2Plus receiver an 80cm dish and a universal LNB set to receive HellaSat 3/4, however I have noticed that some TP frequencies are only 'seen' when the polarisation is changed, e.d 12441V DVB-S2 23666 2/3 8PSK, will only show strong S/N 90% and AGC 89% when I manually change from V to H.
Also because of this I am unable to see any channels on automatic scan. Can anyone offer an explanation please.

You don't need an automatic scan.
What you need, is a receiver in which you can enter BISS keys for ERT1, 2 & Sport HD on 12224 H
There are Greek channels in BISS on 3°East too.

Thank you for the reply, my question is about polarisation, why do I need to change polarisation in order to receive the channels I referred to in previous post. BISS key??

A few questions:
- You say "some TP frequencies". What happens when you change H/V at other frequencies?
- Has this been a setup that worked OK, previously? Or has something been altered?

I'm thinking of maybe some wrong setting in the LNB menu, or maybe LNB skewed clockwise instead of counterclockwise (when looking from behind the dish).
Photos of those two might be helpfull?

Hi, it is very interesting that you should mention LNB skew angles as such, this did occur to me but did not pursue it further, just been outside to take a look at the LNB, which was recently installed (professionally) as old one was dead after 20+ years. The thing is that the LNB is approx. in the opposite skew position of the original one.! So what does that tell you?. In addition I have gone back and checked on all the TP frequencies which are tuned into the receiver successfully, and they only work correctly if the polarisation is opposite to the indicated one. Therefore where do we go from here, and does it matter, in practical terms?.
 
90 degrees wrong skew is practically no problem, but annoying to your transponder list, and very annoying to scanning with 'network search' ON or with pre-made channel lists.
So a professional should correct that, at the LNB, if he/she mounted it incorrectly.

But I'm not sure about the testing results with another receiver that you wrote about in your earlier posts? Did you get the same results as with this receiver?

Thank you for the reply, so I could live with this until I get time to remedy, I will recheck findings with another receiver as I now have doubts over reported results and post back.

Thank you for that I will not be using any BISS keys at all.

Just rechecked with new receiver and as I suspected I was wrong earlier the results are exactly as per TM Nano or polarisation is reversed so skew angle is 90 deg out will sort out.

You may well ask the guy was pleasant enough but was in a hurry to go elsewhere I had to remind him to ensure that he used tape to cover the f connector up to avoid water getting in!!!!, at least I know what the problem is. Thanks to everyone.
 
I hope he used self amalgamating tape ? & not PVC tape :rolleyes:

Whilst s/a tape is pretty good, it can be tricky to get completely around the connectors on the bottoms of LNB's (or, worse, twins or quads/quatros) or, especially, DiSEqC motors (not that the latter seems to be case in Zappas204's case) when you have big hands like me! BTW, cold weather makes s/a tape more difficult to bond & seal - experience!:-doh.

In such situations, spray-on "liquid rubber tape" (check your usual search engine) is invaluable - had to use that today to seal the connectors on the 2x Alsat motors when I refitted the cables after I removed the temporary cross-over cables installed a few months ago to ensure I could get access to the 1.2m Gibby from both the "office" and the lounge via a Smart Priority Switch (Great "gadget"!).
Edited: PS: even with a rubber boot over a connector, an overspray with liquid rubber tape could help in the longer term.

Thank you, I recall the new LNB had an rubber boot included in the pack as to wheather the guy used it or not I will take a look and see when I get a moment, as well as check on the general security etc of the connections.
