Hi,

I have found what appears to be an FM roof antenna lying around in the attic. I removed the very bad coax from it but am wondering if it is indeed usable once again?

If it is FM, can I replace the connector on the end as it seems old, or is it perfectly fine to put new coax in this?

Im not sure what connector to change it with, I am not familliar with this connection as it looks slighlty bigger than a F connector size.

If it is in fact usable, im not sure how it will perform. still ok for free.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Looks like an old car aerial with an adaptor to plug it into a car radio.

The antenna part is about 5ft 4inches does this still indicate a car FM aerial?

The adapter had normal TV style coax going into it so I thought it was a roof aerial.

That'll be a DV27 or copy and designed for 27MHz.

Ah for CB radio. Surprising what you find, no idea how it got there or where it had come from, that's the thing with attics, they all live there.

So not an FM aerial :( ah well it was fun while it lasted.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

You could construct your own FM antenna with anything metal, even that CB antenna if trimmed down to a shorter length (I think about 4ft 8" in old money) would work, but a dipole or yagi would be the better bet... :)

Some of the old DVs or was it the DX27 were helically wound 5/8WL so it wouldn't be as simple as cutting one down although in reality any old bit of wire is probably sufficient to pick up local FM stations these days.
