Astronomers are not absolutely certain but there is some discussion on the light coming out of a galaxy under observation by Hubble.
Too early to confirm, it could be a star being pulled apart by a black hole, a 'tidal disruption', or a star in the last stage of life.

It is a billion light years away though, so if it is a supernova, it may not be visible without special equipment.
