Hi Guys!
Once again my ignorance bring me here to ask for your expert advice :confused: . I am trying to get some spanish channels on Hispasat 30W (Antena 3, Telecinco, and others). I am aware that they are on Power VU encryption. Do you know anything about this? Is there any satellite receiver that will help me to get these Free to Air Channels from the UK?

Any advice will be much appreciated! ;)

Forget it - not possible. Power Vu receivers are not generally available. theres plenty of info on the forum about why you cant watch PowerVu if you want to use the search button.

Those channels are feeeds for cable headends, they are not for general distribution.
 
Thanks again! I did lots of research on this and apparently it will be PowerVu deco coming soon. However, you are right nothing yet...

I'll believe it when I see it. There have been rumours for years.

PowerVu is ultra secure and generally used by broadcasters to feed cable head ends. The receivers are individually adressable and have to be authorised by Scientific Atlanta before they will work.
 
As Analoguesat said you have no chance of getting these channels unless you set up a cable company in spain,

As with powervu the receiver must be authorized by the broadcaster and you have no chance of that at all,

Yep they must be authorized via the powervu connect system when i got my AFN power vu receiver i had to enter all the details that the guy gave me that was in the US forces in italy on to the pv connect web site, Then i received a email from AFN saying they had the details from PVCONNECT and and my receiver was now up and running,

Power vu is ultra secure but the PV connect web site is not, It is not that hard to get AFN authorized as people think,

You dont get it authorised, unless you can prove you are a member of the Yankee war machine in Europe.
 
Authorised receivers do come up very occasionally - Rd100 found a working one - and it took him the best part of 2 years searching!
 
Was even worse during the old B-MAC period back in the late 80's when AFRTS transmitted in C-band on 1 West in B-MAC.

I paid alot of money to get it authorized and it was much harder back then.

But it was no fun watching AFRTS with a C/N of about 6db(lots of sparklies) on C-band even with my small 3 meter Winegard dish so i sold it for twice the price and it expired 6 months later when they buyer called me and was upset.

It was the old Scientific Atlanta B-MAC decoders back then, 19" rack mounted.

Could have used it for Swedish TV3 back then also but i did not have any authorization for TV3 but they used the same decoder.

TV3 started off in B-MAC, i don't know about NRK except they broadcasted in clear D-MAC.

I beleive it was SVT1 and SVT2 that started to broadcast in C-MAC to Norweigan cable headends.

2) Which is the width of the F.I band of this Receiver?
3) It only works with C band or K band or both?

I have one D9236. The other person having them as confirmed to me, by himself, is our member named IPTV. He has, as told, fixed many of these IRDs and got them out of their Factory (wed)lock. Now those D9236, I think, must have been working well and I expect, thru the help of our friend IPTV ( his hotmail add. can be given only after his approval ), some day, very soon, my D9236 will come out of the dead (wedd-lock) fixed preset of "0". Now I come to some of your questions point by point :-
1) As far as I know about the satellite technology the receving frequencies are to be decided by two factors a) Which LNB you use and B) which is the IF bandwidth of your receiver. Normally all the IRDs work between the IF bandwidth range between 950-2150 MHz. So if you use C Band LNB the IF of your receiver will tune the frequencies of C Band. Similarly the IF of IRD should tune to Ku Band frequencies if your dish has Ku Band LNB attached.
2) Scientific Atlanta made D9223, D9234, D9235, D9834, D9835 all have the IF range or Tuning range between 950-2150 MHz. Can any one, please tell, why the SA will differ the IF range of D9236 ?
3) As told earlier the reception and tuning of the frequncies by IRDs depend on IF bandwidth and LNB frequencies. If the LNB is of fixed frequency then the IRD should tune to a fixed. If the LNB is of Universal type such as having a range of 9750Mhz-10600Mhz the IRD will tune to the whole of KU Band T/Ps, provided you enter the lowest and highest frequency range of your LNB in the parameters. One must keep in mind that normal channels or transponders are of QPSK type in contrast to earlier DPSK type. So you should enter QPSK normally, if yor IRD asks for it. Some IRDs are auto also.
