Hi Guys....

I'm in the market to buy a new TV and have been reading the latest on LCD Vs Plasma..I think I've decided on a Plasma..namely the Panasonic TH37PX60B Flat Panel TV. Because of the exorbadant prices we pay for luxury goods here in Ireland I've been looking at UK prices, and even with the conversion from Euro to Sterling I would be able to purchase the same TV up in Northern Ireland for approx 350 quid cheaper, my question is.....

Will a TV bought in the UK have any problems working here in Ireland...I'm sure I read somewhere that problems may occour..but I thought that UK uses PAL signal too?? any info much appreciated as usual.

Does it come with a tuner or is that a separate card? Yes, UK is PAL. There is also Richer Sounds in NI that may save you a few more $$.

Hi mhku...

"Features include: XGA 1024x720 panel, Freeview DVB tuner built-in, 3,072 equivalent steps of gradation (29 billion colours), a maximum 10,000:1 contrast ratio, contrast management system and improved motion pattern noise reduction."

Not that freeview is available here yet..so you reckon no problems then???
cheers

I couldn't answer that- if it was a big problem surely a quick google would turn up loads of "I moved from NI to Ireland and my bloody TV doesn't work" links?

I'd be more interested in whether it did 1080 (p or i), # of connections, and how smooth the picture was. But I still have a CRT tv; when I want big screen I use my projector :)

If I had to, I'd get a plasma.

Why would you want to buy a flat panel with a DVB tuner - when you don't have DVB-T in Ireland ?? LOL.

To answer your Q - the answer is almost certainly a NO - no, you won't have any problems. Most recent sets ship with multi-region tuners: that deliver DVB-T across all channels - VHF through UHF. Depending on what make, the Auto Setup might simply start by asking which country you live in and adjust the frequency table accordingly.

Totally, OT. Personally, if I had the money for a plasma - I wouldn't buy one. I would head straight for the worlds best LCD panel maker and purchase a truly future-proof stonker at 1920x1080 res (REAL HD). 1080i ready.

Sorry, I could wet thinking about it, LOL.

See here to see my baby.

You mean plasma panels need resources that could otherwise power a small village, correct?

LCD's aren't too bad. Not that I could quote any figures. Pls don't ruin my LCD wet dreams by saying .....

Pure economics...37" Tv without DVB tuner is 1800 euro here in Ireland which is approx £1220...In UK the same TV with freeview tuner (which I dont need anyway cos I have S*Y and my dreambox) is £933 which is approx 1377 euro...Shipping the same TV from Germany is even cheaper again (cheaper than 1800 euro)..As for power consumption..I have been doing a lot of reading on this and from what I have read both LCD and Plasma on average consume the same power in a year..I dont feel guilty guys, I'm going for it.
