Problem After Gemini Flash Upgrade - Dreambox DM500s

2 Satellite dishes, 1 for Freesat and 1 for French tntsat, Dreambox 500s

Help please. Am a newbie who bought a DM500 s which arrived and then scanned Astra satellites, got load of channels, connected it to my network. Got Dreambox Control Centre to find it and downloaded the latest Gemini image. FTP'd it to the /tmp directory and did a manual upgrade. Now al I get is the gemini splash screen and now else. What do I do to fix this?

You do not install the latest Gemini on your DM500s unless you know 100% for a fact that its a genuine Dreambox DM500s.

Do a google about the Gemini time bomb and you will know what i mean. Hopefully the image hasn't wiped the bootloader off the box.

Gemini images are a big no no for clone DM500 boxes.

You will need to reflash the box through the RS232 connector using Dreamup.

Download an early version of Dreamup from IHAD ( _http://www.i-have-a-dreambox.com/) and then find another image to download like Nabilosat Darkstar Maxvar or SIF 1.9.4 Maxvar from Dreambox tools (_http://www.dreamboxtool.com)

You will also need to get a null modem cable. You can get these off ebay for about a pound.

You will then need to reinstall the image to your box through the RS232 port on the DM500.

Get everything listed above and then post again and we will go through the reflash procedure with you.

thanks for the step by step commands . but i personally execute all the above commands with the same cable : null modem cable only !

Yes - thats what nano says. One cable, various bits of software.
 
Thanks. I got hold of an RS232 cable but had issues as all of my laptops don't have serial ports and the USB2 to RS232 converter cable I bought wouldn't work on Windows 7 (device cannot start). Luckily I have an older XP media server in my loft and I used the serial port on that one. Have now successfully re-flashed with the Open PLI image and backed it up. Very im channels? Which satellite should I be scanning?
