Hello

purchased a dreambox 500s on ebay

unit was new in box

powers on fine but will not change channels or volume, thought might be remote but have another one tried that remote and same issue.

If anyone has any ideas would be appreciated , thought maybe need to redo factory software, but dont know really

Try loading another image.

If it is the same, open the box and check that the sensor that receives from the remote is facing the small opening on the upper right corner of the box.
 
Don't mess with it and send it back. If there is an issue with the box, the second you open it and you break the seal on the box your warranty is void and the seller does not have a legal obligation to take the box back.

Contact the seller, tell him its faulty and send it back.

If it wasn't new, I'd replace the IR sensor on the front. Had a similar issue with a clone DM800HD and a replacement fixed it.
