Problem with thor channels on dreambox (eagle)

I dont understand why I cant open anything on these satellites with my eagle. Are they all seperate satellites or not? Is the receiver supposed to have 0.8w, 0.9w and 1w all seperate, or are they all channels supposed to be picked up from one another?

I use downloaded channel lists from the pannel or install ones downloaded the forum manually. On a recently updated channel list I installed, it only had 0.8w and no mention of 1w. I could only lock onto the transponder which has bbc world news.

Then I tried an older channel list which had only 1.0w but now 0.8w. I couldnt lock onto anything with this.

I know my dish is positioned ok because I can get these channels with my technomate receiver (tm1000d).

The channels that show football on 'thor' always list 1.0w. However not all the channel lists seem to have 1.0w some only have 0.8w.

How can I sort this out finally? i feel like banging my head agains a wall. Iv wasted my day off work pissing about and missed the match trying to get it to work.

The official orbital slot for the Thor birds is 0.8W. However its almost always referred to as 1W (whats 0.2 degrees between friends?)

How big is the dish?

The Thor satellites are spaced out further than most co-located satellites, according to the official Telenor website.

A big dish with a narrow beamwidth will have a definite selection for each satellite.

Depends upon the size of your wotsit.

The bigger it is, the more important ..................... :D

To quote myself from another thread.

According to Telenor and Intelsat:

Thor 5 position is given as 0.75 degrees West,

Thor III position is given as 0.83° West,

Thor 6 position is given as 0.85° West,

Intelsat 10-02 position is given as 1.0° West.

It would be helpful if you would confirm whether your dish is fixed or motorized and if you are using USALS or diseqc 1.2, as well as the dish size.

If you can get these channels with your Technomate 1000 receiver there is clearly nothing wrong with your dish set up. You should be able to see them on your Eagle receiver.

You need to investigate how to set up the Eagle properly.

Still irrelevant on domestic sized dishes - you wouldnt notice that on any sensible sized dish - the acceptance angle of a normal dish is about 3 - 4degrees.

True, unless it is on or near the threshold. I posted it for big dish users on the fringe who would find sharper peaks using a locking bar and elevation thread.

Certainly with my LH 1m some transponders were stronger on slightly different azimuth and elevation settings on the old 16e before it went up the creek. Likewise with some transponders on 5W. The 0.8w Nordic beams are known to be variable in parts of the UK, with a 1m dish, it may be that he will have to fine tune for the particular transponders that carry his favorite channels. Even on this smaller size dish the satellites can appear 'strung out' on the weaker transponders. On my 80cm, 1w and 0.8 are differentiated, though they shouldn't be in theory.

If the dreambox has an insenitive tuner, as I believe some do, that won't help either.

Of course the problem may just turn out to be a simple need to merge some channel lists from all the satellites into one position, or get USALS to recognize 1w and 0.8w as separate satellites and stop properly at each, or to switch to disecq 1.2 and store close but different settings for 1w and 0.8e.

It would help if the OP could clarify his problem!

Resolution may be easier than he might expect.

16E has been pretty rubbish since W2 expired - theree several tp's I cant get now on my 1m dish :(

Yes, its a real annoyance. Hopefully the new satellite will arrive without problems, the published footprints are not too bad.

Perhaps start saving for a Gibertini 1.2m or 1.5m if SWMBO will allow. :)

Right it sounds like that little glitch that some of the Italian Images have :D

Gemini, Powerboard images etc etc have a tendency to show the orbital positions as they are, where as some of the Italian images like Nabilo or SIF show them incorrectly.

You just need to change them in the transponder settings.

1w on Gemini is shown as 0.8w where as on other images it is shown as 0.9 or 1w.

5e on Gemini is shown as 4.8e on other images its shown as 5e

28e is shown as 28.2e on Gemini and 28.4e on Nabilo O-no

Thats the general gist of it anyway.

You have to make sure your sat list corresponds with the transponder list otherwise it won't work 100%

I have found once you have altered the details in the transponder settings and saved them, that its best to delete the sat from the satellite config and then add it back again.

It usually works fine then :D

The only other advice i can give you is to ditch the Eaglebox as it will drive you nuts as it cannot control a motor properly. Mine lasted six weeks before i got rid of it.

Just make sure your motor limits are set as if its possible for the dish to hit the wall it will only be a matter of time before the eagle parks it there :-DOH!

Hi and thanks for the reply's. I'm still not 100% sure that I know how to sort this out after reading them posts but I will have another go later on.

Here is my 'setup' anyway:

Eagle linux receiver with eagle image (*****)
90cm dish
Technomate motor

I don't think the eagle uses USALS , just slandered disecq as far as I know.

I use the eagle image from the ***** forum. I don't know what its based on but I know its not Gemini .

I use pre configured channel settings and lists which I download from the 'pannel' using the blue button.

Its the second time I have set this dish up as Iv just moved into a new house. I got a good signal on Thor using a meter and the BBC news channel. When I moved the dish to another satellite position I had to fiddle a little moving the dish left or right but eventually got good signal for 13.e, 19.e, and 28.2.e. I saved the positions I had found to be good so the dish is driven to them each time rather than where it had original calculated them to be. Just slight adjustments.

The problem is that every channel I try to view on the Thor satellites near and around 1w other than BBC News wont 'lock on'. In my old house with the same equipment I used to have to adjust the dish slightly to get a good signal between different channels/transponders on 'Thor'. I assumed the dish pole or bracket(s) must be very slightly out of line. It didn't matter though as I had the positions that worked stored in the receiver.

The thing that is strange is like I said before, although I cant open the channels on my tm1000d I know there is an ok signal etc and the program info in displayed.

I'm fairly sure the dish is aligned ok this time too.

Try using the manual transponder scan option instead of using pre configured channel settings.

If you can get BBC World should be able to get other channels on Thor.

Would I not Just end up with a massive a-z list of hundereds of channels if you dont use a pre configured list though?

Thats why I use them in the 1st place.................

The maunal transponder scan will scan only one transponder at a time - you won't get hundreds of channels.

Why don't you do as I suggest if you really want to resolve your question. If you still can't get the channels you are looking for please post further details.
