Post 1 ! Just over 2 year old Packard Bell MS 2384You have a model number, we can look for one in PDF.
Deactivate your antivirus software in the system tray. Maybe it meddles with the stream trying to do its work. Please explain further!
Thanks, figured that was what you meant, but as the problem occurs on a file being played from the laptop hard drive I think the problem is with the graphics bit of the CPU. Thanks anyway, all ideas are welcome as I´m going nuts over this!Deactivate your antivirus software in the system tray. Maybe it meddles with the stream trying to do its work.
That's another trail to follow, stuff going on in the background and eating up resources. I can't yet fully believe that this AMD can be that much worse than the substandard Intel Celeron laptop in a 5 years old laptop here, which has zero problems with hd streaming or playback.Maybe it meddles with the stream trying to do its work.

OK! Did just that and ran the file I just copied from the HDD connected to the STB, and you are right! The CPU is now running at 27% as opposed to 55% when using VLC , BUT I have no picture at all, just a Jackson Pollockref #23, Home · MPC-HC
I know its good, it just wont work on my laptop:mad:Just made this screenshot of simultaneous streaming of 6 TV channels (one of them is from 28,5*E UK beam) plus one is showing on TV screen. VLC player works perfect, I like it.
I guess in theory it could be changed out, but at what cost? Only really want it now and again , for example when the Ryder Cup clashed with Strictly Come Dancing. Saves upsetting SWMBO by sending her to the bedroom to watch things!Any possibility that the CPU could be upgraded?

Yes it is an E2-3800 with Radeon HD 8200, so I went direct to the AMD website and used their system checker to get latest driver. It recommended the cut down version, so I loaded that, it loaded a load of sh*t I didn´t want and failed on the main driver. Which means every time I switch on the laptop I get told the latest version is available .I can't believe that the hardware isn't good enough. Is it an E2-3800?
"By default, hardware acceleration is disabled" <- Have you checked VLC settings?Code:http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-A-Series-E2-3800-Notebook-Processor.105029.0.html

4.2.2 might be a problem though.
