Problems with Diseqc 1.2 and Tbs6925

I don't know what to do or solve this, whatever i do no software seems to be to handle my motor and Tbs6925 card, DVBDream works to some extenct but chokes pretty fast needing to reboot the PC to even close the process hanging.

I am using a separate 36V motor and a positioner to control it, i thought Tbs6925 worked with controlling motors?

I don't want to control the motor manually but want it integrated in software, but it seems impossible, would it be better running Linux or isn't it a OS problem?

The TBS card should drive a positioner no problem ..
I'm using XP ...and the 6925 produces diseqc 1.2 commands ..which are then set to a V-box positioner ..which in turn drives the motor or actuator arm ..
A full description of your setup might throw some light on the issue ..but there should be no real problems ..
Can't comment regarding DVBdream ..but dvbviewer ..or other softwares such as crazyscan run smoothly enough ..
It may be that dvbdream isn't fully supportive of the TBS6925 card.

No answers just some observations as a Dream user using Prof cards, dunno if they'll help narrow down the problem. Doesn't the 6925 ship with an OEM version of Dream, to me that suggests it's recommended for use so should support the card OK? Dream positioning software works OK, I'm using 1.5e to control a diseqc motor and I can't think it would be a power issue if you're using a V box? Have you tried another PC, recently set a system up that was unstable as hell on a clean install of W7 64, swapped the card into my PC and it worked perfectly, my card in his PC was just as bug'y so it pointed to something on the PC the card didn't like.
 
I don't know what the problem is but i never seen so much bugs as with DVB software, it crashes easily, it's not cracked versions i am using, i have paid for it.

DVBDreams developer sent me new developer versions to me and they seem to know there are some problems with TBS cards, i tried most software and only liked DVBDream as it suits me to control exactly everything i want in detail.

It could be compatible problems with my current build, i can get motor running but the software is unstable, sometimes the motor won't stop, i can't trust it.
 
Totally agree with you about DVB software, I've no problem with developers charging for their software but it does seem a bit cheeky when they continually add new bells and whistles without sorting general stability issues. Support is generally hit and miss too, when I compare it to some of the other radio related software I use costing a similar amount its a joke.

Right now i'm so fed up with this, i have tried all software i know of on Windows and they all have their problems and the code is so bad in some cases you wonder why they even want money for it.

Just look at DVBViewer, i totally hate that software, why? i hate that you need to use Transedit to even adjust your motor, why didn't they integrate it into the main application instead? i can understand users with fixed dishes like it but you can obviously see that the application wasn't developed by a feedhunter or sat enthusiast.

It's a shame there isn't anything better on Linux either as i would have preferred that instead, now it's a mess with bugs in all software.

DVBDream is really the closest i get, i can adjust everything i want there, create ECMs and such manually with ease, shame the positioner is such a mess up.

Similar issues.... It will drive the motor once and then not again until after a reboot or the card is uninstalled and reinstalled!

Can I use a V-Box to manually control my Diseqc?
 
The simple answer is yes ..
I assume you are using a 36v jack to move your dish ?
If so its simple a question of chaining ..
Jack < Vbox < TBS card ...< (users PC SOFTWARE)
The PC software issues a command through the TBsS card via the sat software used ..
..for example DVBviewer which I know works just fine (latest version)

That Diseqc 1.2 command tells the Vbox to active the jack ..and drive the dish to a previously stored position (that information is stored in the Vbox) ...but equates to a diseqc command position ..usually 1 through 65.

If you are using any other method to drive your dish for example a usals motor ...then No ..you cannot employ a Vbox

Thanks for the reply mate, unfortunately I do not have a 36v motor, it's a Diseqc.

Arrrgh! Just don't know what the hell to do! Send the TBS card back for a replacement and hope the next one drives the motor?

If the card won't drive the motor properly then what alternative do I have? Use a cheap STB?
 
All I can say is that the TBS card will drive a usals motor directly ..
Have you tried driving it in usals mode (angular position diseqc 1.3) rather than diseqc 1.2 ?
Dvbviewer on my PC with XP O/S successfully drives with the SG2100 or my darkmotor ..
I would therefore suggest its your application ...your operating system ..or TBS card drivers ..
have a serious play around with these options before giving up on the TBS ..
It should work ..though will drag a fair amount of current through the cards tuner ..
not that this should be a problem with 1 motor .. and 1 lnb

Never had a problem with TBS6925 driving my SG2100 in Diseqc 1.2 mode...

Thanks mate

The card has been sent back today to be replaced. I'm hoping that it was just faulty given that it would sometimes disappear from windows on occasion.

So, we'll see if the replacement works.

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, it's a brand new install on new gear (mobo/cpu/ram), only 2 weeks old.

I've tried USALS as well, in DVDDream and ProgDVb and SmartDVB.... Not tried DVBViewer!

It's interesting that LanAb also is using Windows 7 64 bit and having similar issues... it could well be related.

Well the replacement came today and still no joy.

In fact, pretty much everytime I try to do something with the damn card I'm getting TBS6925_64.sys BSOD! It's even worse than before!

What a waste of money these bloody cards are! 'O'-red

I do understand your frustration ...but blaming the card isn't going to help.
There is nothing wrong with the card as proved by many using it successfully.
If you want to lose your temper ..
Do it at the 64bit mainboard ..and the use of windows latest O/S ..
Untried Untested ..and built for people with less interest in _using_ a PC ..and geared for to those who want to be led by the nose and just want swap photos on a social networking site.
No doubt the situation will improve as the geeks get to grips with its nuances.
But if you want to continue using Windows7 ...then dual boot your OS ...and if possible run XP 32 bit in parallel...until the bugs are iron out or better support and drivers become available to make the TBS compatible with W7/64.
Personally speaking ..I wouldn't have Win7 as a gift..

Working OK here with Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. Did have the occasional problem with having to disable/enable the driver to have it recognised, but a driver update has apparently cured that.
 
From my experience of using DVB cards (albeit not the 6925) the problem is always the poor coding of DVB software. I have NEVER had Crazyscan or EBS crash and they both use the same drivers/talk to the card directly. With the popularity of the 6925 both on here and Ricks forum in the US I think there'd be a lot more complaints about them if it was a hardware issue.

I'll just qualify that statement, the only time I can make my card crash through a hardware fault is when I'm trying to drive a diseqc motor and too large a dish, that could of course be a power supply issue from the mobo rather than the DVB card.

Well, I'm using it for 18 months now (Windows 7 64bit Ultimate), and I'm certain I wouldn't go back to XP (or to the upcoming Windows 8, with the Metro GUI, bliah)!

I believe majicm's problems most probably stem from incompatible hardware (new mobo, maybe needs a bios update).

I know man... I'm just frustrated as hell after spending a lot of money and expecting (!) it to all go smoothly. I haven't dabbled in sat stuff for 10 years now and from a mate raving about the 6925 I thought it would all go swimmingly.

I think I have it stable now, no more BSOD's for now but still struggling to move the motor. However, I got an OpenBox S11 leant to me today (for as long as I need it) and to be honest, that's moved the motor a couple of times and now it's stuck again, which is interesting!

It's currently stuck at 42 East - although it has been at 19.2 East and 13 East tonight.

My LNB is a Smart Titanium, and the installer did say he'd seen issues with that particular LNB and motors, so I don't know if that's anything else to look at. Think I'll give him a ring tomorrow and see what I can do.

I wanted to use a receiver to discount everything else and prove it was the card.... The drivers are clearly buggy, with the device having disappeared from windows a few times. My PC BIOS is bang up to date and I believe all other drivers are.

Anyone else had an issue with a Smart Titanium?
 
Sounds like you may well have a faulty motor if a set top box is having trouble driving it ..
My advice would be to eliminate the lnb first ..
Just disconnect it ..the motor will drive ok without it to stored positions.
If all is ok then...suspect the lnb of loading the system.
If the fault persists make up a seperate short run and get the Openbox outside with a small monitor or tv ...and physically watching the motors movements ..
Again ..if all is OK ...suspect the original cabling.
If the fault is still there ..suspect the motor.
Eliminate all other possibilities first ..as changing a motor can be a tricky operation.
If your motor is the problem and is causing the sticking ..then dont connect to the TBS card ..as the current drawn through the card to drive the motor might damage the card..and it aint cheap to replace.
Process of logical elimination is all you can do ..

I can confirm now that the one you sent back is working fine here, sounds like incompatability with your system.
