problems with motorised dish setup at me wits end---- help me please

Hi all

I have ventured into the world of satellite, i have invested in a 90cm technomate dish with technomate tm500 super receiver, and a technomate disq 1.2 motor. I have mounted it on 2 x t&k brackets as per the advice of this forum. I have set the satellite to due south (persume it is) i have enterd the usuals in the motor settings which are:


lattitude: 52.4064

longlitude: -07.019

However im now lost as im not getting any signals..... i only get approx about 16% on the screen, AM i doing something wrong or have i gone wrong somewhere, 3 days i have been trying, my wife is saying the satellite or me lol any help will be really appreciated. short or paying someone i would like to do this myself

Welcome to the forum Mark. Firstly, I'd recommend that you read through all the guides included in the section (if you haven't already done so)

Can you verify that your quoted Lat and Long figures are not a typo, as your longtitude for Kettering should read -0.7019 not -7° which is the figure you have. Double check this, correct if necessary, read through the guides and try again from the start. Also check that your pole is vertical in all directions and that the dish is mounted squarely on the motor stub. If still no joy, get back to us. We all had to start somewhere!!

Edit : FYI, -7° would put your location somewhere in the vicinity of Cologne, not Kettering!!
 
You need to align the dish properly by trying to get a signal from thor.

Hi Thanks for the replys,

I have read and printed the manuals for the setup as produced on this site... i always try my best first prior to asking but anyways my dish is aligned and plum taken from the dispointer website....

Longitude: -0.7019

i have entered this into usuals unless i enterd it wrong i persum i just type in 07019 change to west?? Even if i turn it the same way manually as my sky dish i still cant get a signal??

Stupid question but where do i find thor 1 am i going seriously wrong??

Read these two guides, if you follow them to the letter, you will achieve your aim.

Most receivers only take a couple of decimal places for coordinates, so yours would be 52.41 N Latitude and 00.70 West.

You then send your dish to Thor using USALS, which is pretty much your due South and swinging the whole assembly around the mast and adjusting the dish elevation bracket (not the motor elevation which should be set at your latitude figure) search for a signal using 11862 H, which has BBC World News on it. You dish face should be not far off the vertical.

Dishpointer is a great utility for roughly gauging where your dish should be pointed, but that's all it is, to align properly, you need to use the signal bars in the receiver to check whether you are on the satellite.
 
im now going to try it from scratch, i have printed both guides and going to try and follw them akthough i have read them twice, i would imaging it will be something simple im missing... thanks for the advice guys will update shortly....
 
Back again guys.... now my problem is that every time i switch to motor setup the box keeps rebooting, i have checked all me connections etc and all seems fine even hard reset the motor but to no avail??

Try putting the Technomate back into factory condition, may well sort the problem.
 
I have tried factory reset several times.... im begining to think that its not possible for me.... any way will see what happens
 
If the box is constantly rebooting, then you probably have a problem with the box and it should be returned to the supplier, or reflashed with firmware, but certainly contact the supplier in the first instance.
 
Also check without anything connected.
Does the box work ok if you disconnect the motor and put a f-f joiner/coupler in it's place?

ok i sorted the box problem out.... i know have the follwoing on me screen in satellite search:

thor2/3/intelsat10-02 (1.0w)
snr 17%
agc 16%

am i in the right direction now just needs to tweek it a bit more??

Doesn't sound like you have signal lock from those readings.

Guys thanks for all the help but project is stopped... cant do it been at it now for 4 days.... time to pay someone so if any one local to kettering nn16 0ag wants to set this up then feel free to drop me a line.... THANKS Mark
 
What frequency is Thor set at, have you set it to the one I mentioned earlier? Don't give up, you've only probably been doing it by the book for a day and you are probably very close. How about putting up some photos?
 
Photos is a great idea mark. Don't give up yet mate sounds like it's something simple and hopefully the guys will get you up and running soon.
 
Yes I agree with Rolfw and Chris 76, don't give up your almost there, set the receiver to the transponder that Rolfw mentioned (11862H) as the one the receiver defaults to may not be for your area (spot beam) and you wont get a good signal lock on it.
 
Ok i will try again today and also put some pictures up so i will be back shortly..... Thanks for the advice and support...

Ok I have it all aligned to astrat 28.2 e can get full scan lock and on 19.e but can tget anything else....
 
First thing I'd do is check that your mount is vertical - in both directions - and check that you have adjusted the motor to your latitude. Be aware that some motors have differing scales on the side of the motor mounting bracket. One should be marked as 'Latitude'.

If you post some photo's as suggested we may be able to spot something obvious.
