problems with new hdd a initialize

dm800hd, protek9600ip, 1m motorised dish

hi,

i been a long time user of the protek and have invested in my first ever dream. So far so good wih set up usinf genini 4.5.
BUT i cant get the dream to use the new 2.5inch internal hdd i have just bought for it. When i go to bluebutton\devicesManager\ it says "hard disk is sleeping". i try continuing with menu(blue) \ initialize \ start. wait and this completes but the hdd is always sleeping
 
checked hdd setup, spindown,spinup, speed, initialize and all say unmount failed. the dream detects the hdd brand and gig size tho. yesterday these setup options were reading but the status was of the hdd was still "sleeping".
do i need to format the drive before inserting it into the dreambox.?
any ideas.

also, has anyone needed to extend their dvi-hdmi cable? i bought a hdmi 1.3 x3 switch and when i use it with an exisitng hdmi cable i dont get audio. i have tested using scart and without hdmi extension, so i put it down to either the switch or the exisitng cable. does anyone know the min spec for the dreambox?

The DM800 DVI to HD cable that comes supplied is a special, it has to that one to get Audio.

I guess it is this that is tripping you up, but I am sure I have done similar with a Switch in the past, and it worked for me
 
yeah i read about these leads. they are a dreambox special which does carry audio over the dvi-d. i think my issue is the either my hdmi extension lead or my 3 way hdmi switch. i have read on other forums that dreambox hdmi needs to 1.3 but not sure if thats true.

can any one help with initializing my internal sata hdd. dream menu sees it after initialze but says its sleeping. i tried rebooting and played with what i can find.
any ideas to try?

just fitted a weston digital 500mb hDD to mine mate, had a few problems but got them sorted in the end - will it timeshift ? if you still have a problem
