A friend ( and client ) of mine has installed a KDL 42W829B here in his new house in Spain. Problem is the epg is not working to his satisfaction. He believes in the uk the epg had full 7 - 8 day guide loaded.

I´m not so sure, looking at the set, it seems to have standard FTA tuner, rather than freesat or sky style setup.

Need to know two things to be sure,
1. Does the Sony KDL......... have a built in Freesat tuner, or standard FTA tuner?
2. Does Freeview ( TDT ) have full epg in the UK? ( Have not been back for quite some time )

All help appreciated , esp Lazarus ( as I believe you were working on this recently )

It weren't me, guv!

Sadly I know not the answers.

No, Sir, not I.

"Work" is not the vogue hereabouts.

If its a Freesat tv

Does he get the UK beams? The Freesat home tp is on the UK spot now, so if hes not getting the UK 2E beam he wont get the full epg - just the cutdown version which is transmitted on each FS freq.

If its a generic fta tuner

he will get now & next as the FS epg is none standard

Currently running off neighbours 1.8 Famaval dish, so getting all UK spots ok. I am setting up a Laminas 1.2 with Goobay quad to feed the entire house. 1.2 doing as it should, but think problem is with tv, as have not taken it off the 1.8 yet. Not sure if sat tuner is FTA or Freesat, but am assuming FTA.

Does UK Freeview via ground based transmission support multi day epg or not?

No idea - I removed our tv aerial back in early 2009 after Selkirk DSO as I couldn't get a strong enough signal through the trees to make it worthwhile. We have been 100% satellite ever since.

I know I get 8 day epg on Spanish TDT, just wanted to know how far the UK is behind us:-lol

Freeview has a full 7 day epg. I suspect he's thinking of that.

I know with the Technomate 5402 you have to create a channel on the 11777 transponder and go this channel so the full epg is downloaded. Here are the details for doing this on a 5402 (thanks to Manic01 for this):
Do this in tv mode
Menu
Edit channels
Add channels
Select 11777

Name channel EPG
Channel type tv
Video pid 3177
Audio pid 3176
Pcr pid 3177
Leave video and audio type as they are(Mpeg 1/2)
Save
Exit
Reboot
Go to epg channel
Press epg and wait for update
Press yellow button to see other days update
Exit then press epg

Hope this helps.Cheers

Yes,sorry about that,it was late and I was sober.Apparently it's not a Freesat tuner and you'll only get Now and Next on the epg.Have sent you a message.Cheers

As that Sony Tv tuner has Diseqc 1,0 capabilities ...very unlikely its also a Freesat tuner.......I could be wrong !!.. :-) .. ..but isn't the Humax HDR freesat is the only Freesat tuner with Diseqc via secret menu in non freesat mode..?

There is no such thing as a Freesat tuner. Only DVB-S(2) :)

The firmware of your Sony can only cope with DVB EPG which is transmitted in the EIT (pid 0x0012). Unluckily the EIT of Freesat transponders only contains now and next events. The rest (7 days) is transmitted Huffman_compressed via dedicated pids, which can be decoded by Freesat receivers or by other receiver/tv-applications that have implemented this method.

The Freesat home tp is on the UK spot now
All other Freesat transponder carry the full EPG but only as a low bandwidth stream which will take longer to collect the 7 days information. On 11427H it's transmitted at high speed. Tuning to this transponder will collect the entire EPG within seconds :D

Thanks Mark, as I figured, just wanted to be sure

Blindfaith posted .... "There is no such thing as a Freesat tuner. Only DVB-S(2) :) "

Sorry my mistake...my bad... :-( ......and thanks for correcting me :-) ......A "freesat Recever" is what I meant......But maybe slightly ....a little bit pedantic...?.....

Figure I have it sussed now, it ain´t going to work the way he wants. Needs a freesat enabled tv.
They are on the market now, but no exactly cheap!
Time to end this thread methinks!

Needs a freesat enabled tv.
Will you be able to buy one of those outside the UK? Or will it be hand luggage for someone next time they fly over?
