Summer is over so its time to start the annual weather discussion thread about the winter storms, heavy snows, polar bear walrus & penguin sightings etc.

Summer might be over up in the arctic wastelands where only sturgeon and salmond can survive, but SWMBO and I have just done a long walk from the house up on to the Moors and it's a gorgeous early Autumn afternoon and really quite warm in the sun. I thought about taking my T Shirt off.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

If I hadn't eaten it yesterday, I probably would have thrown the ribeye steak I got on Thursday on the BBQ, just cos I could, but, I lack said ribeye now cos I've already enjoyed it... :D

I thought political comments were not allowed?

In southern Scandinavia we've had something called an Omega-blocking (shape of jet-stream) to thank for exceptional weather in September - >20 degress in the beginning, and 17-20 'till the end.

Image from Danish national weather site.

It seems to have gone away now (the Omega-blocking - not the image), so we're back to <10 degree day's averages....

But I still won't put the BBQ away - as long as it doesn't rain, we can still do the roast in there!
(My brother always does the Christmas meat on the BBQ come rain or snow - but he's a bit extreme there... last winter the pork cracklings were carbonised.)

We've just come back from a week in Cornwall. Not a drop off rain was witnessed!

Not really just fresh:D

Gets down to ~ -25 C at the worst, 5 months winter here, will service the snow throwers tomorrow, 150 meters up to the mainroad.

Used to it after 18 years:rolleyes:

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
TBH, we/I don't like (read "operate"!) in anything like 10C or below (I just don't "function" unless there is a very definite need to be "outside" and with something active to do to keep my core body temperature up - FWIW, in my teens, I lived in a very old cottage that had no insulation in the roof and, at least on one occasion, I woke up in the morning to find my glass of water on the adjacent table was frozen - it was that cold in my bedroom then!). Nowadays, and over the intervening period, I have made sure that our house, which was abominably cold some 40yrs ago, is as about as heavily insulated as possible - last night, and for most nights so far this Autumn/Winter, the most I have needed was a sheet and a couple of blankets!.

However, most of the people who live in colder climates are long-accustomed to "low" temperatures because that is what they are historically used to and they generally have already quite a lot of measures in place to make sure that the conditions in which they live (and sleep!) are OK - saunas and so on :). Maybe I could live with that - but I'm not sure that I want to try that, especially that dip in the snow afterwards (Yup, I'm rather "soft"!)!

It's global warming time, my friend. No need to get over-excited...

Just came back from summer cottage (near Broby).
Meant to stay until tomorrow, but we ran out of water.
Literally. The well went dry!
Makes quite a difference when your flushing toilets don't flush!

Apart from that small water supply anomaly, I'm still well supplied by a birch that decided to fall late last year - burning nicely by now :)

By eck its gone chilly now - winds straight from the north, a hail shower passed over whilst up at OH's allotment on Saturday, but various poppies were still blooming!

Now have a met office warning for snow Tuesday into Wednesday - any more than half an inch and no doubt it'll be the end of the world as we know it as usual in the press.

The high winds this last week have blown enough leaves off the trees that I now have partial reception of 5E :)

Its not perfect - the video still has jitters on it but its good to have my Ukrainian services restored :D

If only :D

A rescan of 5E shows only 11766H is currently available - need some more strong winds to blow the rest of the leaves off
