What PVR options do I have in Cyprus?

I'm not sure if I can use a SKY + decoder (tuner performance and the cost/possibilities of dialing SKY from outside the UK)

The future of Tivo looks uncertain, so I'm not happy about investing in this technology at the moment

My main requirement is to automatically record my favorite programs, without the hassle of setting dates and times.

I guess that the current batch of Hard Disc Recorders / DVD Burners do not have the flexibility to access SKY's EPG to automatically record certain programs - ie "record me Simpsons, East Enders and Fifth Gear!!"

Sky+ IMO has a far superior tuner than my old PACE (Sky+ V2 / Pace 2200). You can ge away with not having it connected to the phone line ;)

It is worth it.

Have you already got a dish? Visit www.astra2d.co.uk to see what size you'd need...

Many models of DVD/HD recorder don't need to access the Sky EPG, you can set them to 'External Link' for recording. I have a Panasonic recorder and if I set my Sky digibox to 'Autoview" the programs I want to record and the put the Digibox in standby, then my recorder automatically switches itself on and starts recording whenever the Sky digibox turns on. The recorder then switches off again when the digibox's program ends and the digibox goes into standby. My old Panasonic VCR worked the same way. I only wish I have bought the Panasonic DVD recorder with built in HD...

Leee, is it the "pace sky+ V2" box you have now which is so great... or is that your "old" system? How is the pace sky+ v2 tuner for fringe reception?

Dave - I find my V2 Sky+ box to have almost 100% on all four meters - location Zurich so I am not as fringe as others.

My old box is connected to #3 on the LNB and is 70/80% on both meters.

This is the basis of my sweeping generalisation ;)
