My Satellite Setup
new motorised system

All of a sudden, the quality signal is now fluctuating between 25 & 50 power is a t 70 what could have caused this I've changed the LNB & checked the connections on the motor.???????????

Insufficient info!

Who installed it and when?

What are the makes/models of all the bits ie Receiver, Motor, Dish, LNB?

Are you using DiSEqC positioning or USALS?

Has it been windy?

Is the problem the same on all Satellites or just some?

Had this set up for over 5 years with no problem
Its a golden interstar box
Not had any reason to re set anything as all has worked great so far. Original set up was diseqc
Had lots of windy days so don't think this is the problem
Have a Sky HD system dish right next to it with no issues.
Power is around 70 on Hotbird but the spectrometer readout is now a dotted line where as before the line was constant. The quality signal has dropped and keeps changing up and down constantly but does not get above 50 so very few channels installed and all are pixilated.

First thoughts: Duff LNB; Degraded cable.

I Changed the LNB but its just the same. Wondering if its the box? as i am getting lines on the TV which travel up the screen just before the box is turned on these then stabilize but no signal quality. Cant think why it has just gone all of a sudden

What about the cable?

The thing is, once water has got it, capillary action takes over and it can track back as far as the STB connector.

And, as the LNB requires 13/18V and a 22KHz tone to operate properly, cable degradation can have all sorts of odd effects.

Can you borrow another box to see if that presents similar symptoms on your dish/LNB/cable? (Most boxes are short-circuit protected, so if the cable is faulty, it shouldn't goose the box)

Can you take your box to someone else's dish/LNB/cable to see if it then works ok?

Finally, if it does prove to be a failed box, the fact that it has happened all of a sudden isn't terribly relevant - anything that fails today worked yesterday, whatever it is!

Have you done any of the substitution tests I advised earlier?

Did you try by passing the motor, if the coax cable runs through it, and connecting the LNB straight to the receiver? Or try the receiver on a different dish, as tivu advised?
