My Satellite Setup
DM800 with Gemini image. Using SmarGo cardreader as well as internal.
My Location

Hey guys,

Currently I'm using a DM7000, with a Gemini image on and 2 cards installed (ViaSat and CanalDigital).
This works really good, and I'm using the NewCamd software for this.

Now I'm thinking about upgrading, to get the advantage of HD broadcasts.
I was really in love with the Dm800 due to it's size, but it only has one card reader and heard alot about it's a huge struggle getting an external card-reader such as Smartgo to work on this?

Anyway, this is why I'm considering the DM8000 instead - please do correct me, if my above mentioned worries are way off :)

If I do get myself a DM8000, will it run as easy as my DM7000, once I install the Gemini image?
Also, it seems that I need to use CCcam in the future - is that gonna cause issues?

Cheers :)

Hi there, ok firstly, it takes 5 minutes to get a smargo running if you know what your doing. I can help with that if you wish.

Second, CCcam is the best all round cam emulator at the moment. The cards you want to run will be fine using CCcam.

I think the DM8000 is a little excesive for your needs if all you want to do is run 2 cards. You are aware its twice the price of an 800 ?

That's the thing, I don't know exactly what I'm doing all the time ;)
But I agree, the DM8000 seems a bit too much to my needs. I can't see other resons to get the DM8000, other than the option for DVD drive - but I already have a DVD player running, so no need really.
I'm well aware of the steap price :)

I share my cards with my stepdad, who's on a DM7000 as well - is this going to be a problem, if I switch to a DM800 on Gemini with CCcam and a Smargo reader? - would be AWESOME if you can assist on this solution.
He uses Newcamd as well - but suppose I can just switch his cam sw to CCcam.

Oh, the DM800 is also "slower" than DM8000 - will that be a problem?? I'm thinking cardsharing wise :)

Btw, is Gemini the best image for my usage at the moment? :) (Off topic question really).

I have a DM800 with a smargo reader so I can use two cards, I have no issues with it and the smargo was very easy to set up.

Gemini will work fine but personally I prefer Nabilo images.

And CCcam is definitely the way forward.

Do not get a clone box ;)

Hm shame, my replies in my own thread, needs approval by a moderator :(

There's no way I will get a clone box :)
What are the advantages of Nabilo over Gemini? - and will this cause trouble sharing wise? :) (clients using gemini etc).

Err... ok, that last reply worked fine without approval - wonder if my first reply to B16MCC is lost then..

Will paste it here instead:

Doesn't matter what image any of you use mate. If you all use CCcam it will run just fine.

Nabilo has some nice extras in it including full EPG for sly UK and IT.
Let me know if you'd like to go through the smargo setup when you decide what image you're gonna use because the setup does differ slightly between nabilo and gemini. I wouldn't bother looking at any other images.

Sounds great !
Seems like I will after all go for the DM800 then.

What are the limitations, when it comes to cardsharing in it? Will it struggle if I had like 5-10 users on - or does it not matter?

Think I will stick to Gemini, as not living in UK or Italy (not a Sky user).
... unless you guys actually recommend Nabilo over Gemini :)

Btw... is CCcam able to receive those "card updates" the providers now and then broadcast?? I think newcamd was/is able to do this.

The DM800 is currently limited to 32 users on cs with CCcam, I doubt you will ever need any more.

CCcam updates some cards but not all so it depends on your card.

Lastly I personally prefere Nabilo over Gemini but then I am more attatched to the Nabilo board ;)

Ok, I wont ever reach that limit, so no worries there CCcam wise - hardware wise its a non existing issue, right?

Is there a way to figure out, if it will work with my cards? :)

It has nothing to do with thread ownership it has to do with the protection of the forum, that is because certain key words you are consistently using are setup to catch people offering illegal stuff on this forum.

You'll just have to rely on what other CCcam users have reported.
Check if your card is listed on any of these sites.

sbinx, the internal reader of the DB runs at USB 5v. An NDS3 card operates at 3.3v. I would recommend you don't use it in the internal reader. Consider the chance of burning your £900 calcio card, or what ever it is you have, for the sake of spending £40 on a smargo.

Alrighty, I now ordered the DM800 with a Smartgo Cardreader as well.
B16MCC, is it better that I PM you somehow, once I get the stuff and have the Gemini installed - so you can assist in getting the Smartgo running? :)

Btw... as I'm using both cards in a DM7000, will I have to carefully choose which of those cards I use in the internal cardreader of DM800 ?? I'm thinking about the 5v vs. 3.3v issue blinx mentioned....

@dennismeng keep all info in the thread and not via pm, it may help you understand but not others.

sblinx, you can use the smargo with CCcam directly. NO need for NewCS at the moment.

hey mate

are you sure cause i don't wont to put a hole in it as i already had trouble with one!

what image do you suggest i use? - gemini or nabilo (this is what i'm using right now) - when i had the 800 i followed your tutorial and had my smargo working perfectly with an nds2, cccam and gemini.

one other question regarding the 8000 - if you don't mind:

i have this box for a month now with an internal fujitsu 500Gb hdd.
i installed oozoon / nabilo pureflash in the flash and used barry allen to install other images. when i used the images on my hdd, the drive was always on (even though i set it up to standby after 2 minutes). when i used the image in the flash the drive went to standby as i had set it up. so i had to revert to just an image in the flash!!

did you get the same problem or do i have something wrong?

thanks for your help
