The Italian public broadcaster Rai has made a change to the distribution lines on the Eutelsat 5 West B satellite, which serves as a source signal for terrestrial transmitters in Italy. One of the multistream multiplexes (MIS) changed the baud rate.
The changes were made at 11.675 GHz, where the transmission rate increased from 30,000 to 3,500 ksymb / s. Other basic parameters have been retained. However, the composition of individual streams has changed. The new multiplex contains streams 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 15. Streams 14 and 16 are no longer broadcast. Stream 1 is a novelty.
This Rai multiplex was originally focused entirely on the regional version of the nationwide Rai 3 channel. Now Stream 1 also includes the main Rai 1, Rai 2, Rai News 24 and one of the TGR Veneto Rai 3 regional programs. Three Rai radio programs are also broadcast here.

TV programs are in MPEG-2 in SD resolution, audio and radio are in MPEG.

The multiplex continues to operate in the Transalpine bundle. Reception is also possible in the region of Central Europe. To the east, the signal decreases.

Two remarks on this change: Rai programs viewers can watch DTH from the Eutelsat Hot Bird satellite system. HD modulation was decoded before the Christmas holidays and most shows are FTA . Exceptions are programs that Rai cannot broadcast outside of Italy.

The second remark points to the broadcast itself - many Rai viewers in the multistream may not notice this change in the parameter (SR) at all. Multiplex question contained only regional mutation Rai 3. With the change of the parameters are partially changed and content - one stream to the main channel RAI but the viewer in the MPEG-2 SD receive from other transponders at 5 ° W .

technical parameters - Rai mux (multistream):

• Eutelsat 5 West B (5 ° W), frequency 11.675 GHz, position H, SR 35300, FEC 2/3, DVB-S2 / 8PSK, multistream

This is all due to the DTT changes in Italy for 700MHz clearance, Rai are gradually phasing in new versions of the "first multiplex" each with three versions of Rai 3 rather than one.

The latest to appear is the version for Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol including the special German-language opt of Rai 3 -

We will no doubt see more movements of these multistreams for the next few months while the process continues.
