We bought a second hand free sat receiver for our caravan, It worked fine except the channels were all for london ie BBC1 london we live in Yorkshire so I tried to change them to yorkshire. Now Every channel is BBC1 yorkshire! How do I set this thing up? I thought I was fairly good at household programming but I'm just lost. Please help.
 
Usually you enter your postcode on initial setup and it uses the correct local channels.
Does it not say in the manual about how to do a factory reset?
Also a make and model would be helpful
Google the make & model manual if you don't have it to hand

Hi! It's an FTe maximal max S91. Because it was already set up I just went into menu and and channel list, .I try pressing factory default but nothing happened. The instructions are useless they just tell you how to set up the dish and which satellite to choose (astra 28).
 
That is not a Freesat receiver. It is a Free to Air (FTA) satellite receiver.


What you will need to do is to do a full rescan of the the Astra2/Eurobird1 satellites, and then re-order the channels to get them how you want.

Alternatively search the channel list to see if the channel you want is there, and move it to the correct position in your channel list. If not there, you could just scan the appropriate transponders

So if I wanted to buy a new free sat receiver for our caravan what should I get? Obviously something easy to set up and that will work with a portable dish.
 
Well if you want a full epg then buy a proper Freesat receiver rather than a free to air receiver. If you are happy with what you have been using then any cheap fta box will do..
 
It's best not to use the term free sat as it is too easily confused with Freesat. The correct term is FTA (free to air) and Freesat receivers are a special type of FTA receiver.

Go to the Argos website, search for "Freesat", and buy a model of your choosing. Whatever, keep your receipt, as some cheaper models may not be too reliable.

If you are aligning your dish manually however, your existing FTA receiver would be best kept for that purpose.

Do you have a mains supply in the caravan or are you looking for a 12v powered receiver?
 
Thanks everyone, This is all a lot more complicated than I thought! Maybe a bit too complicated for me...
 
Nah it isnt :)

All you need to decide is 12v or 240v to begin with, and take it from there.

If you have mains supply then the choice becomes fta receiver, old sky receiver or Freesat box.
