Hiya,

I am trying to aquire a system so that I can receive the Dutch TV channels, including Yorin, SBS6 RTL4&5 Net5 plust the AVRO and TROS senders.
I have an Amstrad receiver that picks up most German channels, but we are from Holland so it's not much good. I am a relative newby to this site so any help would be greatly appreciated. I would need the system as well as the cards (I think). Can anyone tell me where I could buy such a system and if there is any help available for installation.

Thank you...

Dion

dion,

as for your Dutch channels, you can get Yorin, SBS6 RTL4&5 and Net5 on one package by pointing your dish at 19.2E (which is probably where it already is) and getting an official subscription. See this link for details, and links to the provider :-

If you were so inclined, you could also open these yourself by doing a little research, as the encryption system is very weak.

Also, regarding your query about M-NET and DSTV, they are on Eutelsat W4 on Ku-band, and PanAmSat PAS10 on C-band, but as you can see from the links below, the footprints do not cover the UK, even with a huge dish.

I would suggest you have a think and a read, work out how much you want to spend, and how involved you want to get, then post back here with some more specific details regarding the hardware required. We'll be glad to help.

Regards.

Thanks a million BG,

I will try these out and let you know how I get on. I will probably need a new box with a card slot, but i'll double check.

Thanks again, it's a big hel.

You will need a canaldigitaal smartcard and a receiver that can handle the encryption system used by canaldigitaal (mediaguard), Sky digiboxes cannot decode the Dutch mediaguard streams.

There are three types of receivers you can choose for recieving Dutch channels. The first one being an official Mediaguard/Mediahighway receiver from canaldigitaal (these sometimes come with a smart card). The second (my prefered) option is to get a receiver that has a CAM slot and a CAM, Astoncrypt 1.05 or higher or the new official canaldigitaal/mediaguard CAM. The third (and maybe the most troublesome) option is to buy a CAS receiver such as the Xtreme. If you go for the second or third option you can also get a model with built in hard disk for time shifting and recording, like Sky+ but without the cost and limitations.

If you have friends or family in the Netherlands then the easiest route for you to take would be to have them arrange everything for you. There are no special installation requirements such as attaching your equipment to a phone line. They can simply walk into a satellite shop, buy the card, fill out the form using their name, address and bank info.

You don't need a subscription as such to receive all of the Dutch public and commercial channels, just an activated card which cost between 70 and 80 Euro's. It is advisable to take out a yearly service subscription which costs 19,95 Euro's. This will save you having to call canaldigitaal each year on an expensive 0900 number to reactivate the card and you will get a new card free if/when the need arises to change the current cards.

The canaldigitaal website can be found at http://www.canaldigitaal.nl

Good look!
