Hi..

95% of the receiver´s only show the amout of signal when the receiver have enough signal to receive TV.

I use an old Sagem that it have a great function: the signal start´s at 15% and the minimum signal to receive TV is 45%, so..even if i´m not aimed to the perfect position or i dont have enough dish size to receive a specific satellite i get variations below 45%...usually with this receiver 1.5dBi is 15%, so 30% is 3dBi which is a lot!

It´s like having a SatFinder in a receiver..but my Sagem is a beast, it´s big and heavy.

Anyone knows other receiver´s which have this capability?

Thanks.

db's are on a logarithmic scale not a linear scale
the logarithmic scale measured in dB's dictates that a 3db drop in signal strength equates to a 50% loss in signal.

Receivers do not give a calibrated measurement of signal strength, just a rough indication of the power of the received satellite signal. It can be useful to have a receiver with a responsive strength reading, but don't take for anything more than an approximation.

Quite a lot DXers in Eastern Europe including Germany use ukranian Openbox Receivers additionally to their other boxes. Their tuner is rather sensitive especially that of model 810 and reacts quite fast. The dB scale compared with much more expensive measuring equipment is showing realistic values. They are rather cheap as well. No DVB-S2 reception so far but the company is working on it to offer new receivers in some months. Here you can have a look at the menus: _http://www.openbox.ua/receivers/x810/test.php

I know that i cant estimate how much gain each antenna have based on % from the receiver..dB and dBi are two very different things.

The 1.5dBi is from my antenna simulations and for those types of antennas with that receiver..i have 15% of signal difference for each 1.5dBi. (Based on 5 antennas each having 1.5dBi of difference)

I enjoyed very much the link that "deepbluesky" posted from Openbox receivers...finnaly a receiver that show´s dBm and not %:)

the receivers have sensibility starting from -65dB, right? is this the minimum signal that a Satellite receiver needs to receive data?
