Receiving uk channels

Hi,
I am staying in prague and connected a 1.1m dish to a panasonic sky digitbox (which has a FTA card in it). I cant get anything on astra2d.

But it seems that if I have a sky package I should get channels such as itv which are broadcasted from astra 2a (which I found on lyngsat)

But on my skybox I cant see these channels, I tried to add them but the box seems "locked" and wont add any channels.

How do I get uk channels (with or without a sky subscription) without upgrading the size of my dish? since its a problem in the flat

We need a bit more information.
You say you can't get any Astra 2D channels, which channels can you get?
Is the Sky card one of the new white cards and has it been working before?
If you can't get any channels, are you sure that the dish is pointing at Astra 28.2?
 
I have a white fta card which is not activated, but will activate it today.

I get no channels from astra2d, as from Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2D at 28.2°E - LyngSat I get channels from eurobird1 fixed sky 2b south beam (bbc parliment etc)

I think I get 2a north as well.

i can see those channels now from that site (itv meridian and c4 etc) but they come back with "not authorized, contact broadcaster" should i get this with my fta car activated? or do i need to buy a sky uk package?
 
If the card hasn't been activated then it's just a piece of plastic. Of no use until activated.

If you just want FTV channels ($ly 3, Fiver/+1, Five USA/+1, $ly News and a few encrypted ITV regions) then you don't need another card - just that one activated.
 
thanks, so it seems i may be able to get itv and 5 when i get my card activated, channel 4 doesnt appear on 12480v anymore.
I guess thats my best hope, no hope in getting bbc channels as they are only on 2d, correct?
 
BBC News should be available - and if you do get that, your Red Button should give access to the "Interactive" Screens, none of which are on 2D.

A few crumbs there!
 
Im really annoyed with the sky digitial box operation I have, I have added the channels, but the only way I can access them is via "services" "other" then manually select the channel.
There is no easy way to view them, or add them in favorites.
Anyone got a workaround for this (apart from changing the box)

Yes it does, I was watching it this afternoon.
 
The sky box is expecting you to be in the UK so don't knock it for not putting them in the EPG, if you use a sky box out of its operating zone expect things not to be exactly as you would like.
 
I saw a 1.8m dish that you put together for 99 pounds in maplins! It comes in 6 pieces so could be transported easier. I cant get one now but was interested in what the quality would be like, has anyone any experience with these? I wander if it would work as well as a standard 1.8m dish.
 
They have the structural rigidity of wet cardboard!

They are truly awful, and perform no better than a good 1.2m dish!
