Actually Universal Lnb is designed for Offset dishes , But when comes to parabolic primary focus dishes the Universal Lnb doesn't work perfectly due to wider illumination angle , and in order to the universal lnb to work better is to remove the cap of the lnb and inserting a small waveguide pipe down the lnb throat .

Hello to All.
I am new to this Forum/website, also I am new to all this satellite stuff.
What is the difference between a "LNB" and a " FEEDHORN ?
Is the "Fortec Star" 2.4Mtr dish any good?
I have a house in Bulgaria and this year I took an old Pace Skybox and an activated Freeview card across there and coupled it up to a 1.5mtr Prime focus dish, no ITV or BBC, Ch4 and 5 ok and some other FTA channels.
Any advice would be helpfull.

You will need something quite a bit bigger than 2.4m for most of Bulgaria. Start thinking 3m or even 3.5m on the Black Sea coast. Possibly bigger in some areas as there isnt much info available about 2D reception in Bulgaria...

Fortec dishes are not well regarded as they are cheaply built. Comments on the forums indicate the 2.4m often have characteristics nearer 1.8m.

Hello to all the experts.

Probably a dumb question, but i will ask anyway.
Is it possible to use 2X2mtr dishes to get BBC+ITV on Astra?:confused::confused:

Whilst its theoretically possible at KU band frequencies (because that is exactly what radio astronomers do at their radio wavelengths) the costs involved in getting the dishes exactly electronically aligned for phase shifts outweighs the costs of buying one big dish every time.

I have found a couple of suppliers of large dishes and I am waiting for price quotes, will probably be quite expensive.

Plus, it would require at least four dishes of 2m , not two.
 
the,best way,but very complex,to handle,to boost signals is,the use of industrial freezers used in laboratorys,for sience!
espasely,in the cband,you can win ,a lot of gain,when you set down,the temperature to minus 273 degres!

the system,behind,is very expensice,it cost to much,for normal daily use,but it works:)
 
For Bulgaria i would like to add this:

Some years ago i had a talk with somebody from Sliven. He told me about Valvecs. They are quite well known in Bulgaria and produced at least then big dishes. How well they perform in comparison to known brands i really am not aware of but indeed i wouldn't go below 4-5m. And even then you can never be sure to get all the frequencies 24/7.

You could also do a search for russian high quality dishes made by Supral. They offer a 3.7m Offset which might be of use as well.
