Reception in Israel

This was excellent info, thanks.

I am currently on a short vacation to Israel and trying to set up my Aunts reception, she has a satellite dish and a couple of recievers... I have pointed it to the main transmitters with a footprint over Israel but can only get CNN, BBC World, EuroNews and one or two other English Language stations. Is there something I'm doing wrong?, or is reception of the FTA channels blocked if you are in Israel and not a Yes subscriber? I have pointed to hotbird, amos etc. How do I get these FTA channels in?

If you have any bright ideas, please let me know

when I reread what I wrote I can understand how it read... I wasn't looking for a crack, or anything illegal or illegit, it was a geniune question, she was sold a dish and two recievers, and was told that she can bring in her channels without subscription, I figured that it sounded odd, but have to check, shes an elderly lady that he been stiffed for a good few dollars...

All I was looking for is to see if the FTA channels are available in any format, or if in Israel, its either 'Yes, or NO - thing....' so to speak!

Haven't even worked out how to private messgae on this forum, thats how much of a newbie I am

The channels on Amos you can bring in FTA are shown here in pale cream assuming the channel is on the Middle East Beam not the European
Unless the firmware has been altered as you say to block them the way others do.

There is no crack for Videoguard
 
Still the Newbie questions...

How would I know if I'm on Euro or Mid East signal? I don't seem to be getting, for example, Israel 1 and 2 (or any other Israel channel for that matter...) Is there settings I need to change?

As you can see you are mile away from the Euro bam so it sounds like you may have fixed dish installation and probably pointing at another bird on the arc if I was to guess I would say Hotbird 13 East.
 
OK, now I have it, I've seen those maps before and was looking over them last night as I tried to get it sorted... (before the minor earthquake that took my mind a little off it... :) )

OK, I'll keep playing, realistically, as long as I can bring in more than just a couple of news channels, she'll be happy, like I said, its just trying to find the free to air English that'll work.

Hi fliptbrit and welcome to the forum.
Your original post in the Yes Package was moved to here by the mods, otherwise I would have replied earlier.

I would like to know few things:
1 - The make and model of the receivers.
2 - Apparently there is one fixed dish pointing to Hot Bird 13E because you can receive Euronews which is not on Amos. Please confirm.
3 - Did you move the dish around or you are basing your input on the installer's final setup ?
4 - To receive the 5 Israeli FTA channels (Channel 1, 2, etc.) you need to install another dish for Amos 4W and keep the current dish for Hot Bird 13E or the otherway round depending on the size of the dishes. HB should get the bigger one.
5 - Hot Bird doesn't have that many British channels except BBC Prime.
My recommendation is to subscribe as Direct to Home (DTH). See details in this thread:

Remember that the sub. would be exempted from VAT since the BBC would send it to a country outside the EU.
This way you would have a better picture quality and sound than from Yes.
The snag is that she would need a receiver which supports Viaccess (need Embedded CAM or CI slot) and assuming that the receivers that you have now are FTA, then there is a need to either purchase a new receiver or replace one of them with Viaccess support.
Don't touch any make which doesn't have a decent website. I believe a suitable Topfield models might be available.
6 - If this is just a short stay, then you need to work really fast, especially with the receiver change. Putting the smartcard in the slot would be easy if you are not around when it arrives.

Hi Flipt :)

Just to clarify this: When your posts were deleted it wasn't because you asked about encryption or so, it was purely because you posted a question in a thread where it wasn't suppposed to be. We try to keep a certain order here. Threads of this kind, i.e information about packages do not need postings about your aunt in Israel and nature related dish movements. We are very interested in your problem, and will do our best to help you - as long as it is asked in the correct section - here for instance.
The only place where thread hijacking is tolerated is in the Joke section (and any thread by 2CVbloke where he talks about Kirby vacuum cleaners).

Just make sure you read the forum rules again :)

Unfortunately, I'm leaving tonight and am back at work in London tomorrow, so am unable to sort anything more, but will talk someone through getting this all sorted for her from home.

She has a motorised dish, as I am now bringing in channels on Amos, Hotbird, Astra 2d and Nile... which is getting her out of trouble.

I'll look into hte BBC Prime thing and come up with a resolution.
